I'm not saying this to just be a dick, but b/c it actually matters. Ask @Elwood how important the code is when it comes to laws. Where in the code does NJ start to limit Air Soft, or what proposed changes to the code would limit them?
Airsoft guns use plastic BB's, the New Jersey law requires that BB guns be registered and you have to have a permit to purchase them. From the New Jersey State Police website's FAQ.
Really? You know people usually preface stuff like that when they know they're acting like a dick. Like, "I'm not a racist but". In any case, here's the code. b. Handguns. (1) Any person who knowingly has in his possession any handgun, including any antique handgun, without first having obtained a permit to carry the same as provided in N.J.S.2C:58-4, is guilty of a crime of the [third] second degree. [if] (2) If the handgun is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person [. Otherwise] it is a crime of the [second] third degree.
No, it means I desire clarity before jumping off a bridge. Where does the code define what the bolded means?

Go find it yourself, I spent 20 minutes finding that, you can find the rest since you seem to think you know better than the New Jersey State Police, airsoft manufacturers, etc.
I you have to spend 20 minutes to find something that says a law says kinda/sorta/squint a bit what you want it to, shouldn't that tell you something?
Ya know, I started the thread in a moment of panic because I heard a rumor from a reliable source, and was hoping for some more information. I realize I didn't word the OP as a question, and that's my fault. I'm still trying to find harder info. Meanwhile I'm not making claims, but seeking info. Again, it's not an unreasonable assumption that the rumor has some foundation in truth, since people HAVE been arrested in NJ for being found with AirSoft guns off their own property, and for firing AirSoft guns ON their own property after a neighbor complained. You probably know as well as anybody that a written law can be interpreted any way an arresting officer, prosecutor and judge want. The fact that NJ law says any gun that launches a projectile via any means, including spring and air, is considered a firearm, could very easily include AirSoft, since they are basically low-powered air guns. I'm not interested in having a neighbor see me shooting my P90 in the back yard and ending up spending a night in jail. Hence my quest for confirmation or clarification. The post I resurrected the thread with lists the bill I think the hobby shop owner might be panicking over, but I'm not sure. It's clearly not a ban, but opens the door for arresting some poor schmuck playing with an AirSoft if the arresting officer interprets what he's doing as "unlawful purposes." Now, you can help keep an eye out for further info, accept that I may have panicked over incomplete info, or just stop being a douche and move on.
Let me get this straight - you have to have a permit to possess a handgun even if it's not concealed? What a crock of shit - but sadly many states agree with this.
Yeah, it tells me that New Jersey's state government really needs to do a better job of making their laws easier to find and navigate. If this was the State of Michigan I'd have found it in a few seconds.
You need a permit to purchase each one. There's no separate permit to own, but I guess that's covered by having the purchase permit. You'd of course need a permit to carry, but NJ doesn't grant them. We're a "may issue" state, but nobody issues.
And yet all they do is keep making MORE laws. I still can't get over the hollow point semi-ban, which includes them with "armor piercing" ammo.
We have a simple system on Fort Gordon (and many military installations). Here they register the person, not the weapon. If you pass their background check, you can bring any and all weapons to the range for target shooting/hunting. They don't have to be registered. That said you can't carry any weapons unless you are on the way to the range and back. You can't keep them in your trunk while you go shopping. You can use guns to hunt, but only shotguns, muzzle loaders and bows - no other guns to include .22 rimfires. If you live in post housing, you have to register any and all guns you store in your house or in a unit "arms room" if you live in the barracks. Dirt simple really. State of Georgia off-post is even simpler.
Look at it this way, that "may issue" Bullshit looks like it's going the way of gay marriage bans. Oh and is there still any doubt that airsoft guns in NJ are in the same category as BB guns, especially since they both shoot round projectiles with the use of compressed air or spring action?
Yes. Especially when the only 'mainstream' article is from Fox News, the rest being blogs and message boards. One local report states that a guy arrest for brandishing an Airsoft but then never follows up on what happened (charges dropped, went to trial, found guilty/not guilty, etc.). If Airsoft really were banned don't you think a real news organization would cover it?
And if Airsoft is banned, or requires a permit to purchase, then no one told the Dick's at 325 State Route 18, East Brunswick, just called them up and they sell Airsoft and no permit is needed.
Dude, what IS your fucking problem? I'm looking for help here, not ridicule. At this point it's just like you're trolling.
If they aren't banned then it's a capricious interpretation of the law. As for the fauxnews banter give it a rest. It ain't WND.
Considering that it's the case in NYC as well and I'd never heard it before, no, not necessarily. New York City Administrative Code.
I do want to add Ancalagon, if you don't want people thinking you're acting like a dick, maybe you shouldn't come into the thread and insinuate that the OP is making shit up, after you repeatedly make fun of the OP, like you did in post #28 and previous posts.
I see. Let me make sure I understand this: Someone you've known for over a decade whose hobbies include guns and airsoft and lives in New Jersey says something and you spend 2 pages ranting about "SHOW ME THE CODE!" Then someone else you've known for over a decade actually goes to the trouble to show you the code and you say "SHOW ME WHERE IT SAYS IT IN THE CODE!" Someone shows you a story from a national news source and you say "THAT'S NOT RELIABLE!" But when some minimum wage clerk you've never met in your life that works at a store you Googled up tells you something, that's good enough for you. Is that fairly accurate?
For god's sake, you've got me agreeing with Volpone. Do you have any idea how much that hurts my soul?
