A woman attending her mother's funeral met this guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing — so much her dream guy, she believed him to be, that she fell in love with him right there on the spot but never asked for his number and try as she might she could not find him. A few weeks later, she killed her sister.

    What was her motive?

Me too. It's the most obvious answer and my brain will hurt if I try to think of anything clever.

But if he's the mortician she should have no problem locating him again. No reason to kill her sister.

Methinks Anton is trying to weed out the psychopaths on the board.

Too bad we're all psychos! :Pbm:

When I first encountered this, my first thought was "She found out the sister killed their mother. Second thought was, jealousy over a sister's new BF being the guy she met at the funeral, the sis having obtained the number.

But the Borg Queenie here has it right, it's a psychopath test.

The woman who killed her sister was hoping that the guy would appear at the funeral again. If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a question that a famous American psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer. Many arrested serial killers took part in the test and answered the question correctly.

Why does it say I disagree with borg queen's post, when I sent positive rep? I even deleted it and sent it again, same result.

EDIT: I deleted the rep and left it deleted.

IIRC, you need fifty posts for your rep to display properly.

"To see him again" was my first thought, too.

But I don't think like a psychopath...I think like a role player who has read a shit-ton of comics, books and watched shows full of mystery solving and crime fighting.

Besides, with no other information but what is in the question, it's pretty much the logical answer if you don't make up fantasy scenarios wholesale to explain it.

I don't know. I read comics and murder mysteries and watch all the forensic medicine shows and I still didn't get it even after being told the answer at least twice before.

But, then, I'm a very self-centered person (not intentionally) - it just doesn't occur to me that someone would think any way other than the way I think.

My first thought was "to see him again."

My second thought was "because he's married to the sister."

Way too easy. I figured out the answers to all three of them without hardly even thinking about it.

[?="First one -- six glasses"]You move only the middle full glass, but you pour its contents into the middle empty glass, then put the now empty glass back into its place. [/?]

[?="Second one -- the murderer"]Since his name is John, it was easy enough to pick him out, since the carpenter, lorry driver and car mechanic were women.

Which makes sense for the lorry driver, at least, because if it had been a real man, the term would have been "truck driver". :nyer:[/?]

[?="Third one -- the eggs in the basket]The last person took the egg and the basket, so that the egg had been taken but was still in the basket.[/?]

Any you'd care to add to the list?
