He had lived in a fantasy world all his life where it didn't really matter (on a national scale) what he did or claimed. As long as he was fucking over the "little people" who bought his steaks and risked ptomaine, bought into his "university" and got a "diploma" not fit for ass wipe (if that) or stiffed lawyers and contractors, nobody really cared. He was so attracted to pro wrasslin' where they used to actually believe that if word got out to the fans that it was all fake and rigged it would collapse, only to find that nobody gave a shit. No there's a great many people in this country, including some on this board, who don't care that he's all hat and no cattle, but there are still a lot of people who do care. Trump may finally get his comeuppance (although that remains to be seen) but there's still a certain squeamishness about filing criminal charges against a former president. I don't think there's any such squeamishness about holding a congressman to account. Although that also remains to be seen.

Looking at where NY congressional district 3 is I can tell you image is everything. It does not have to be what is real, but it is what they want to see. I do not think he will be a evangelical fascist in gay clothing, but he is certainly putting out a false image. He is probably a socially liberal fiscal conservative corrupt as hell NY republican.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the repulsicans will be able to count on him for a vote against abortion rights, or LGBT rights. However, he is probably all for tax breaks for the rich, corporate welfare, and is ready to spend big on the MIC.
