One of the things I've always heard all of my life is only proper Christians get to go to heaven. Everybody else gets to go to hell just because they don't believe in God and it doesn't matter how good a person is, if they're not a Christian they get to go to hell. So why is it so important for a kind loving God to have worshippers?
God is a born entertainer...he lives for applause! And deservedly so - just look at his range! He shows gentle love, blinding rage, and everything in between. He's a complicated deity, and no one understands him but his.....well, nobody really understands him. He wears a T-shirt saying "I created the universe, and all I got was this stupid T-shirt!" He has a cute poster of Jesus on the cross, and underneath it says "Hang in There!" But at the end of the day, "it's my way or the highway.....to Hell!"
He's retired from the slaying and pillaging (or at least encouraging it) scene. He's just an old man who wants live in peace, working in his vegetable garden.
Something I never get a spin-free answer on, is this riddle. Those who go to Heaven supposedly get to watch the suffering of those in Hell. But if you're a sadistic enough fucker to want to watch that shit, how the fuck do you deserve to go to Heaven??
Heaven/hell/sin/judgement, just some of the things brought to you by...... the imagination of people.....
So why hasn't humanity retired from worshipping him then? Like Janet said...what has he done for me lately?
No, humanity created gods (lots of them)because it makes sense when trying to understand,.. for most people. We tell ourselves that god created humanity as a result of that^ and a whole bunch of 'conclusion before evidence'
You have it a bit wrong here. Its the belief in Jesus Christ that gets you in. But then the Jehovah's have a different twist on thois also. Basicly all groups have some form of this.
Frankly, I think there should be a large convention, maybe in Las vegas, where all the denominations and variations of Christianity gather, play a little blackjack, and hammer out these little details.
Not on the schedule. What they do in the privacy of the Las Vegas Olive Oil Vats is for them to decide. The cameras and webcams, however, are mandatory.
I suspect it's best if they don't. A unified church of compromises of faith would not only lead to lousy faith, but most likely the kind of church that would seek political power and control...and may even succeed in getting it. It wouldn't be long before it wouldn't be about God and faith anymore...which we sometimes see already on a smaller scale.
Scenario #1: They all start fighting over little nitpicky details, end up even more divided, and maybe even a few new ones. Scenario #2: They actually manage to get along long enough to hammer out a detail or two before the Pope is caught cheating at blackjack. Papal authority is compromised, and the Catholic church is weakened Heavily. Scenario #3: They actually start to form a larger, powerful church, in which case the power base is solidified and easier to destroy.
I have given up on trying to point out the basic reasonablness of (true) Christianity to skeptics, but as a single point of order, i will give you this: IF god accepts EVERYONE then: A. The existance of god is a complete irrelvancy to wit: why worry if he's there or what he thinks if you can't get rejected or punished? B. The concept of Justice is a complete fiction. To wit: Execute Hitler and you have promoted him to paradise. Now, if, then, logically there MUST be a dividing line, then you are no longer arguing whether or not some are excluded - as you infer in your post - but upon WHAT basis exclusions are made. Which is an entirely different question. There's a simple logic to that one too - but i can't be arsed to spend any more time on the subject. I find I no longer have much of an interest in changing minds.
No spin? you have been misinformed. no christian religion I know of teaches that. Jesus' parable about "Abraham's Bousum" fit into the mythology of the jewish traditions his listeners would be familiar with. It's not a literal discription of a physical place.
I see humanity being forced into one entity and stripped of religion. In its place will be dogma about the destiny of mankind. A la Starcraft.
Well, obviously you think so...but IF you write off "god" as a human construct then the original question that started the threadwould be nonsense. I, unlike you, answered within the postulate of the question.
