You're not highly active in the MC threads he plays in, so it won't do. And whilst I'm not hugely active on here, it is an annoyance to have a thread where you can debate with him and he starts dropping little turds of joy into it.

The pity is he'd probably be more successful via debate than baiting people.

Oh fuck off with that shit. I swear, Volpone, everything is a politically partisan thing with you. "Liberals" this, "lefties" that, I'm surprised you don't hate your left nut because of it's apparent stance, or your left arm because of it's location on your body. Can't trust anything lefty.

Jesus Masturbating Christ, not everything is about politics.

As for Dayton, it doesn't matter. Like ecky said, Dayton just wants to win, and will do anything to win, even if that win is only in his head. He'll be nice, he'll be an asshole, he'll do whatever he has to do to ensure whatever victorious goal is his feverish focus. More moderating won't solve anything, and ignoring him won't solve anything. He's going to be Dayton no matter what. The best thing you can do is just address him directly. That's something Wordforge is generally good at doing.

Huh. If only there were some kind of board function, where posters could cause him to "lose" in threads. I wonder what something like that would look like... :hmm:

However, he does bother ecky. Let's see you call ecky a liberal. :bailey:

See post 22, where I clearly say that Dayton isn't the problem. I'm bothered by over charged moderation (see posts 1, 5, 7, 22, 27, and 29 for starters). You used to be bothered by that too, but until you get over the fact that Obama is President and there is no neg-rep at Wordforge, you likely won't remember why you so often used to threaten to start your own board.

El Chup and RickDeckard have made statements along the lines of being a TOS purist, liking space battles, and that the only reason anyone likes Abrams Trek is because they think it's popular? But then, for a while there, they pretty much were spewed with venom for having negative opinions about the show, so maybe you're more on the mark than you think. :diacanu:

But really, I think it has as much to do with it being Dayton as it does about his negative views he posts, and frankly the people accusing him of trolling don't have a leg to stand on, as they do quite a bit of trolling themselves in a vain effort to get back at him somehow. And in spite of their complaints about him derailing threads, more often than not, they derailed the thread by taking a cheap swipe at him, and he responds to their troll because he responds to basically everything, and they just keep it going, again in a vain effort to get back at him somehow. Then they go whining to the mods when he won't shut up like they want him to, even though their trolls are what set it all off to begin with. :jayzus:

No, the problem with Dayton is that he's an Aspie who will respond to anything directed at him, or said about him, ad infinitum, because much like garamet, he seems to have the need to get the last word in. So if you think he has any valid points, then those are the only things he says that you should respond to, and if you're just tire of the subject, let it drop. He probably still won't shut up for a while - that's just the way he is. All the same, just because he says something doesn't mean anyone has to reply to him.

I hate to bring it up again, but rep was a pretty good way of dealing with that, back when it actually meant something. I don't seem to recall threads getting derailed as often back then, because people would usually make their dissatisfaction known in the little notes they'd leave in the neg-reps they gave him.

But how many people have actually made the attempt to ignore/limit the attention they give him? It's calmed down recently, but I've lost track of how many times even the Red Room threads become about his views on sexuality or him slapping his wife.

There's a reason my avatar is what it is. Every troll wants attention. Shit, I remember when Faceman spent a whole YEAR negging Tamar. She never responded--he stopped. Same with Garamet--when people stopped following her into every thread for a sole purpose of attacking her, she stopped too. Notice how Tasvir quit with throwing the N-word around when people stopped responding. We know Dayton's game.

That being said, I think Paladin overreacted in closing the whole frigging thread.

I remember when I first found this place and Dayton was well into the red. Back in '05, it was ten rep points a day and no poster could give more than three per day to any one poster. So getting even one red pip, much less the five hundred or so he had, was kind of a big deal.

But then, one day, he shut his trap, and eventually chilled out enough to get max green. Then, once rep was gone for all practical purposes, he went off his fucking rocker, reverting to form. I honestly think the only reason he's here is because we're the only ones that'll have him, because maintaining WF as a free speech board is far more important than weeding his sorry ass out.

But hey, on the plus side, even though Liet is such a scumbag that even liberals won't play with him any more and he's left the board in disgrace, he's one of the most respected posters on this place. :?:

I disagree with the closing of the thread. Dayton baits, but in the rules as written, nothing says you can't do that. If members are misbehaving, you give members warnings. Then ban them when they've been warned enough times. I think enough people know what is and isn't acceptable in Media Central.

Now discussion is ruined for everyone. On top of that, what's preventing the shenanigans from going on in the new thread? Like the goggles, this does nothing.

    LOOK TO YOUR LEFT!!!!!

    WHAT DO YOU SEE?

WHY IT'S THE OTHER LANE OF THIS TWO WAY STREET!

Dayton baits? I can buy it.

But so does a heck of a lot of people who constantly chum the waters baiting Dayton into responding.

Max green doesn't mean respect and no one thinks so but you.

When new people see what jerks certain people are, and notices who reps them, all that is going to do is make the people who are repping the stupidity and crap look like they agree with it and are just like jerk they are repping.

No one is going to think those people are really liked and popular when they can clearly see the community doesn't approve of them through interaction and posts.

That is why this form of "rep protest" is so useless...all it does is make the participants look like people who think like and agree with their target.

I'm not talking about real life...I am talking about Volpone and Muad pos repping people who act like doofs as a "protest".

All it does is make it look like they agree with their doofy sentiments, whereas Volpone and Muad seem to think some green squares automatically makes people here respected.

Substitute we for they and I'm with you. For better or worse rep generates discussion and complaints from everybody. Take this exchange for example.

People like the idea of leaving a quick comment without bumping a weeks- or months-old thread or expressing disapproval without turning the board into a shitfest. And yes, you can still do both of these without running someone into the red. If there were a way to have "agree/disagree and remove the points entirely, I'd be all for that, and I'm willing to bet most of the board would be, too.

    Let it die. :borg:

The hell? Who gives a shit? It's Dayton! He's teh baba after somebody found his remote, turned up the grammar and changed the subject channel.

Put him on ignore like a grownup if you don't want to see his babble. Or, better idea yet since somebody's bound to quote him and your poor little brain will be scorched with his rendition of the "sony lesbians bsg? bsg mass effect?" song and dance, just toughen the hell up.

Unless, of course, y'all are just pretending to be incensed and upset just for fucks 'n' chuckles. In which case, carry on.
