And you go right on denying that you enable Dayton. Time for rotation.

How'd that talk from Lanzman go? If it hasn't happened yet, I'd recommend he not only admonish you for helping Dayton, but for belaboring the wrong point in the Helpdesk.

Something does need to be done about Dayton, but it's a difficult balancing act for the mods.

WF's Lefty-Screw-Loosies don't mind Dayton's differing opinions only in so much that they wish to see a moderator who will bend to their will and eventually hand warnings out to Dayton in order to silence him from the board entirely.

    It's rather transparent. :walz:

His reputation ranking tells me that he is liked by the vast majority of wordforgers, which no doubt explains his favorable treatment in Media Central.

What a bunch of whiny losers. :jayzus: You all accuse someone of trolling, simply for posting and sharing an opinion that's different from yours, and you lack the civility and self control to keep yourselves from spewing venom on him, even as you beg the mods to ban him for simply having the gall to post his unpopular opinion in the middle of your circle jerk. :brood: Then, when the staff repeatedly warns you to remember what forum you're posting in, you ignore them and continue to derail your own fucking thread until the mods finally follow through on their warnings and lock the thread you yourself derailed. And now your all whining about your thread being closed due to your own inability to follow the rules or heed the mods' warnings.

I don't think the problem is the Staff. I think the problem is the Members.

I say we fire all the members and get new ones. :bergman:

If only there was a system in place where members could police other members they disagree with. Something that other members could use to easily and quickly understand another member's standing in the WF community. A proven method of behavior control that has worked on certain members in the past.

If only I could think of such a system...

Frankly, if anything's different, it's that I think the absence of the Sokar persona improved the atmosphere.

We made Paladin? Or do you mean Dayton? I can accommodate myself to Dayton if the mods allow it. The problem is people stepping in where they have no business, kind of like you entering this thread for the sake of flaming liberals and Dayton, rather than for meaningful contribution.

You do realize that in that particular thread both El Chup and RickDeckard had similar opinions to Dayton (albeit, from a position of actually having seen the film) and still regarded him as trolling?

Problem is, Dayton has pulled pages from the old Enterpriser book. A regular troll is easy to spot and deal with (ban/ignore/abuse) - teh jooz, hurr, hurr, teh niggaz hurr, hurr - but one who mixes it in with actual contributions is a bit more difficult, especially when it's plainly obvious they've more issues then their chicken coop.

So yeah, you can't just ignore him - he can post valid points, and some of his posts are enjoyable.

I also don't think he's a troll - he indulges in trollery as part of his warped personal war to get World+Dog to agree with him, and it's that which needs reining in in forums like MC. In the RR, not a problem, but in MC he's on a personal crusade to try and drain the joy out of things he doesn't like, sort of a joy vampire (he'd get along just fine with my ex...) and that needs either putting a stop to or relaxing the rules to allow retaliation.

TBBS went through all kinds of hoops to, initially, deny Enterpriser was a troll, and then finally to try to an control it. May not be a great idea to follow that yellow brick road, as it's yellow due to being made of piss.

I don't know what to suggest, I don't wish to see him warned, banned or railroaded off the board, but he needs a virtual smack across the back of his head more than most. Simply ignoring what he's doing isn't going to solve anything though.

Ecky gets to the heart of the matter. I don't want for Wordforge to be TrekBBS, which means the mods shouldn't try to mediate Dayton flair-ups. That worked so well with Enterpriser that it spawned Wordforge. Don't shut the threads down, don't come down hard on people who respond to the troll by flaming, just let it sort out on its own.

Here's an option: Address his valid points, glide over the trolling posts/parts of posts. Positive reinforcement for one/negative reinforcement for the other. Make particularly certain to ignore the "Often-repeated questions a five-year-old would know the answer to."

    Won't work.

This isn't a guy pushing peoples buttons from chosen desire, it's a compulsion to do whatever necessary to "win." He's pretty much admitted that several times.

This is someone so committed to wanting no anonymity on the web that he sprays personal information to such a point the NSA probably have built in Kitchens Filters on their server farms, and it endangers his future prospects.

In Dayton's case the rule book has but one use - to concuss him with.

If the board supports thread or forum level banning, I'd suggest using those on occasion and temporarily (in the case of forum level bans). Don't take all his toys away, just the ones he won't play nicely with.

I suspect not being able to respond to Trek threads in MC would be the equivalent of him having a limb in plaster, and someone whispering in his ear "itchyitchyitchy" and I know we can rely on members to highlight that fact in such threads turning him into a veritable Tantalus.

That might inspire a change in tactics.
