    This is normal:

And now we have the ‘Don’t Say Mean Things About Desantis Bill.’ Anyone who writes an “article or story” about “the Governor, Lt. Gov, or Cabinet member” and receives compensation must register with the state within 5 days of publication.

Aside from intimidation what the fuck is even the point of this?

I tend to think that the sponsors couldn't come up with a non-chilling effect reason for such a bill.

It really is a sad to me that a) this has a chance of passing b) this might not immediately get struck down despite being an obvious 1st Amendment violation and c) those stalwart fans of a free press who believe the Twitter files show government coercion are probably going to be silent when there is literally a bill where a state government plans to fine people who write articles and fail to register with them.

Wow, that is some fucked up shit right there. So much for me thinking Ron was less bad than Trump.

BTW this will pass because Ron has absolute control over the florida legislature. The only hope is that after he signs it into law it is immediately challenged in the courts. I doubt any judge will let it stand without being immediately put on hold. I doubt this law would even get heard on appeal by SCOTUS. There is no way the courts would give this much power to the executive to control speech.

All the people who say Descumbag would never go this far need to see this as a wake up call. I did not think he would go this far. everyone has a fucking blog today.

In some good news, I am pretty sure the first use of this law will be for Descumbag to arrest Trump for truthing about him while claiming the truth is a blog. I almost want this to last for a couple of weeks just to see Trump do a perp walk for calling him meatball Ron or Ron desanctimonious. I am actually thinking Ron might be angry enough to arrest Trump.

yes, I know he probably won't, and I am not actually rooting for this, but we should at least wait a week to challenge it just in case because it only really effects the duh.

Now think about this: DeSantis is very likely to run for President on the Republican ticket. And he's very likely to win. How's that for terrifying?

What's terrifying is the amount of people who will argue that both sides are equally bad and downplay it.

There is a decent chance Trump does not run all the way, dies, or gets charged with something. Then he has a chance. Since Desantis is too much of a pussy to attack trump directly he has no chance of beating Trump, and if Trump stays too long and bloodies Dedscumbag too much meatball Ron won't win.

At this point I do not even think Desanctimonious will announce. If he does run against Trump Lyin Ted is going to look good compared to the punishment games Trump will have him do.

Why the facepalm, @Lanzman ? He's right. And it won't be entirely from fence straddlers like you but woolly-headed liberals who will sit out out because they're mad at Biden for not being a progressive.

But honestly, I couldn't care less what their excuse is. If anyone uses apathy as their excuse not to vote or piss away their vote on a third party and that fucker wins, they're dead to me.

So long as Trump is drawing breath and not in prison, he will run. The question is will be run as a Republican or an independent because his vanity won't let him *NOT* run.

Running for President from a prison cell has been done. I wouldn't put it past der Drumpenfuhrer to try it. :brood:
As close as recent elections have been Trump could play Ralph Nader to the Republican candidate if he were to get any votes at all in one or two swing states as an independent. :spock:

I am thinking really debilitating illness like a major stroke, or something else that would cause him to not want to be seen in his condition. He does not have shame, but he does have some vanity. If he cannot cover it up in make up, or he is crippled he drops out. At his age that is not out of the question. He could fall and break his hip, and he would never do the physical therapy to recover. Do you think he is going to come out in a wheelchair or on a walker?

I agree he won't quit or drop out. He wants the money. He got hooked on the power. He craves the attention. He also thinks he needs the pardon power. He also is probably going full on tyrant revenge if he gets elected. However, two years is a long time of getting off planes, climbing stairs, going down ramps, and walking. Gravity is a bitch the older you get, and it only gets worse for people his age. There is no recovery at his age. There is just slowing the fall, and gold with a golf cart is not real exercise.

As of today he does not need to go outside the republican party. Desantis is not going to beat him in a primary. If desantis cannot beat trump for #1 in florida with republicans, he cannot beat trummp anywhere else. He cannot beat Trump in florida and even he knows that. The prison cell thing might change that, but they just deliberately torpedoed Trump's charges in GA by letting an almost grand jury talk to the press. They are doing everything to make excuses for not charging him at this point. The fix is in and obvious. The NY DA retired without bringing the criminal charges. The people under him quit because they would not bring criminal charges against trump, and the only thing NY is doing now is going after the trump org. GA handed Trump the tainted Jury pool excuse. Have we heard anything in the past few months from the special council from the DOJ?

He'll run to try to stay out of prison. But either way it's all hands on deck again to stop the the insanity that is running the GOP, and that isn't going to change for a generation at least.

A line of thinking is that if he doesn’t get the R nomination he might trade his endorsement for a pardon.

Maybe. But Trump isn't particularly rational or trusting. And as an egomaniac and narcissist he isn't likely to let someone else take the lead in his own safety and security.

This bill is for tax collecting purposes and showing the source of your income. They want to treat paid bloggers like lobbyists. I don’t think it’s a good idea because it opens up a huge can of worms, but that’s what the bill really is about, not “don’t say mean things about DeSantis.”
