So much for the concept that we're all in it together.

They're trying to make two classes of travel. They're trying to give us two classes of healthcare. What's next? When do we pass out the bread ration credits?

Well, that's just silly. I don't see a problem with private planes for security, but these aren't just private planes, these are very expensive private jets.

It's been a particular sore point as I read about everyone tightening belts but Washington.

Here's a checklist of the perks - it's tone is colored by outrage, but can you blame them?

    That's what I said.

All those tattoos and body piercings that people on public assistance seem to have don't come cheap. Neither does morbid obesity.

They all have those? Are you sure they got them while they were on public assistance and not before? It's not like you can sell them once you lose your job...

Well, as an American taxpayer, that pisses me off quite a bit. You have to understand, yes I believe in social safety nets and medical care for those who can't afford it, but I believe in judicious spending, and the people who "represent" me shouldn't be so out of touch as they are. How well can I be represented if my elected officials have no idea what I and millions of other Americans, experience every day?

Honestly, a few perks I don't mind, like gym club memberships, parking spaces, and tiny things like that. However, I believe congressional pay should always be based on performance. Then maybe we'd see some shit get done. It will never happen, though. I've always had a problem with the ability for congress to give itself a raise. That is bullshit and should be completely unacceptable.

The level of luxury available to congresspeople as compared to the average citizen reminds me of Marie Antoinette's fated words to the famine poor upon learning they had no bread, was "Let them eat cake". Whether that truly happened or not, it is a warning to those in congress who feel they're above the concerns of the nation, and take their time remedying the problem while enjoying the greatest of comforts while their constituents suffer in the streets.

My family lived off-and-on welfare/food stamps nearly my whole life, and not only did we not get fat, we actually learned some more good eating habits once my mom enrolled in a gym. All our cereal were things like Chex and Raisin Bran and the junkiest ceral we were ever allowed to eat was Lucky Charms.Even before my mom became a health [-]nazi[/-] nut, I always remember coming home to fruits as snacks.

Even with my lowlife stepfather running our finances into the ground and not having made a full grocery trip in two months, we still find ways to get around eating complete junk most days of the week. It's hard, but not completely impossible like it was fifteen years ago when whole grains was something only found in bread.

Which is precisely why I live well beyond any bus service. When they move the lines out, it's time to pack up. Keeps me one step ahead of the riff-raff.

    Meh Gulfstreams are overrated.

I'd go for a Cessna Citation X. The fatest production civilian aircraft since the withdrawal of Concorde.

When food stamps can no longer buy potato chips, Little Debbie snack cakes, Coca-Cola, and candy, then you'll have a leg to stand on about the "cheapest food" leading to obesity bullshit.

Anyway, the house decided three jets weren't enough...
