I'll never understand why people call Palin "stupid". Based on what? A couple of interviews. President Obama is considered highly intelligent it seems. Just because he can deliver a great teleprompter speech. There is no relationship between intelligence and public speaking ability. Hell, President Bush's first national address after 9-11 was considered by some (including Stephen Ambrose) to be the "best presidential speech since World War II".
Silly. The sheeple think Palin is stupid because the Democrat/MoveOn.org/CBS News/MSNBC handlers say she's stupid. President Obama is considered intelligent because the Democrat/MoveOn.org/CBS News/MSNBC handlers tell the sheeple that he's intelligent.
Interviews where she seemed painfully ignorant of basic national issues. You can try brushing that off by saying she wasn't a national politician at the time, but neither are most Wordforgers, and most of us seemed to know a hell of a lot more than she did.
You should be addressing the point rather than trying to shift the subject onto other politicians. Palin's lack of availability to the press and her performance in the three interviews she did during the election campaign had turned what was initially strong public support sour. Her debate with Biden sealed her reputation as someone who couldn't handle tough questions and wasn't ready for national politics.
I did not see the debate because of work but I heard from several sources that Palin handled Biden pretty well in the debate. Note, they were conservative sources pretty much, but I don't remember liberals or Democrats trumpeting Biden's performance so I doubt he won either.
That's an interesting opinion. I'd be interested to see if, say, Joe Biden or Barack Obama had been able to withstand the level of scrutiny and hit pieces leveled at Palin instead of oh, say, Obama swats a fly.
It appeared to me she had a set list of talking points and refused to deviate from them. When pressed on certain issues she stumbled and failed to address them. Polling numbers after the debate gave it to Biden but it wasn't as one sided as I had expected. If she had conducted more than just the three interviews and made herself more available to the media she might have been able to bleed off some of that speculation and scrutiny. Kind of like how Kerry refused to address the claims made by the swiftboaters, and we all know how that turned out for him.
Where is the point in doing continued interviews after it becomes apparent that all they're going to do is ambush you while lobbing softballs at your opponent?
Someone with a kung-fu quick wit, and a command of facts of a Jeopardy champion could've left Katy Couric in a ditch bleeding from the asshole. I don't care who it is, and who's lobbing softballs at who.
Because if you bury your head in the sand you're just going to get kicked in the ass. Palin's refusal to engage the media was all the proof critics and those on the fence needed to turn public opinion against her. Crying about media treatment certainly won't get you elected either.
And yet he still kept himself in the media spotlight and successfully conveyed his message, despite those complaints he had. It's something Palin had failed to do.
They also wouldn't have responded to the question, "Would you be willing to be VP?" with, "Somebody has to tell me what the VP does before I'd agree to take the job." as Palin did. [YT="Starting at about the 2 min mark"]oro2Yh9HoEM[/YT] Note that the guy asking her the questions served in the Reagan Administration. Damn lefty bastid.
Oh c'mon. That's a huge reach. It has always been a joke that VP isn't really a job. Whether it is joking about going to the funerals for B-list diplomats or saying the job is to break tie votes in the Senate and inquire as to the health of the President, everyone jokes that the VP has nothing to do. Of course when Palin does it, the press clicks into "stupid rube broad, doesn't even know how government works " mode. Just like they raked her over the coals when she was talking to like, a four year old, and simplified what a VP does. And isn't it priceless? GTC's position is that if anyone else had whined as much that the media was being mean to them they'd get buried, but when I post an actual interview with Candidate Obama, whining about how the media is being mean to him, the story changes. Shit. Picture Palin saying that in a CNBC interview. They wouldn't have even let her finish the sentence. The interviewer would've eaten her alive. But because The Chosen One uttered it, it is allowed to pass unchallenged.
My statement you choose to solely focus on (while ignoring the rest like you always do) is consistent with what I've been saying all along. Palin had a poor showing initially when it came to interacting with media and instead of trying to improve upon it she hid away and cried about how hard they were on the poor defenseless VP pick. Her interviews were so soft they were playing t-ball. Yet you cling this imaginary liberal media hate machine as if it were gospel truth. Take the partisan blinders off and realize people reacted negatively to her because they didn't like her. Not because of some media conspiracy. If you don't know what a VP does then look it up.
Another bogus complaint bites the dust If Palin kept on having to pay for shit like this after she called it quits (the complaint was filed after she announced her resignation) then it really isn't hard to see why she's bailing.
Someone with a sloth-like slow wit and a Stephen Hawking grip could've left Katy Couric in a ditch bleeding from the asshole. Sarah Palin couldn't get Muad Dib to fuck her.
You wouldn't fuck her if she tried to get you to do so. If she wanted you to fuck her she'd dress up in a Lincoln Halloween costume displaying her new "W.T.Sherman Rocks!" tattoo.
I'm not sure how anyone could watch Palin's "press conference" announcing she was quitting as governor of Alaska, hear the unending pile of drivel that come out of her mouth and possibly look at her as intelligent. And that wasn't an "MSM" hit-job. That was her, a microphone, some wildlife making noises in the background, and a rambling, virtually unintelligible rant about basketball, energy, her family and Kosovo. Or something.
Again. Why does speaking ability equate to intelligence? Hell, we've had a number of presidents (including some considered the best) that could not speak worth a damn.
Your ability to communicate, in a job requiring constant communication and leadership ability, means EVERYTHING.
Does anyone remember a single memorable speach by President Truman in nearly 8 years in office? And what about President Bush? People constantly denigrate his intelligence yet his post 9-11 address to the nation is considered one of the greatest presidential addresses since World War II.
By the way, I don't even like the way Palin speaks. I think she tries to be too "down home", "folksy" or whatever you call it. Way too many homey antedotes (did I spell that right?). Way too much of the attitude "Hi, I"m just a housewife next door but look what I've done!!" And she smiles to much for my taste. Kor was right. "I don't trust someone who smiles too much" But I still think she is plenty intelligent. But I think the best presidential type speeches have to have just a bit of arrogance to them. The attitude of "this is what I believe, this is the way I'm going to lead, this is what we are going to do".
