I just heard on the news (we're out early from school due to an ice storm) that President Obama will make a speech tomorrow where he outlines the measures that he himself will take (executive orders) to control firearms and reduce the chances of more gun violence.

The President will be joined by children and their parents who wrote to the president in the after math of the Newtown tragedy about their fears of gun violence.

It bothers me using such an obviously blatant appeal to peoples primal emotions to address an issue that has direct constitutional ramifications.

Hell, he might as well have a press conference at a childs funeral.

I'd be more surprised if he didn't have children at his side. You've got to expect the manipulative nature of politics. That's what these guys do, manipulate the public - and the public eats that shit up, unfortunately.

I might not remember it correctly.

But I don't remember President Reagan at the Berlin Wall being surrounded by the children of people who had been killed by the communists while trying to get over the wall.

Ah, so you don't object to manipulation in general, just the children part.
    Gotcha.

Rob, that "might be pertinent worded what is being talked about. When not talking about AK-47s, we are talking about semi automatic sporting weapons.

Seems as if someone who can deactivate a robber with a .38 would be a lot more resourceful than those who argue that they neeeeed an AR-15 to stop an intruder!!!1!

I know more than a couple of people who hunt deer with an AK-47.

Sure the AK-47 is not accurate at long range, but then again, lots of deer are killed at 30-50 yard ranges. And it is just so damn reliable, easy to use, and dirt cheap.

Why are you under the impression you have to be "more resourceful" to stop an intruder with a .38 instead of an AR-15?

That's like saying you have to be "more resourceful" to make it to work in a Ford Taurus than in a Ford F-150.

    It's meaningless nonsense.

I'm not. I'm mirroring the arguments of those who neeeeeed an AR-15 to "protect their families."

It's a cute trick, but not as clever as you think.

An AR 15 exists for it's own sake, so does a .38 snub, 12 gauge, etc. You can shoot cans with them, use them for home defense, put them over your mantle, cuddle with them at night, or stick them up your ass when masturbating, it's really irrelevant.

They're legal, and owning them is a constitutionally protected right, backed up by Supreme Court rulings.

    I see Rob Matter agrees.....

But does he understand the difference between the one that is $12000 and one that is $500 (or $800+ now thanks to Obama ;))

    I doubt it.

Of course after reading this he will rush to the internet and look up the difference and try to pretend that he knew all along.

    So I'll answer it now.....

You can not buy any AK-47 that wasn't already in the country before 1986. You need paperwork from the fascists at the ATF and as you pointed out a whole bunch of money to get one since AK-47's are rare.

Those guns on TV that look like Ak-47's? Semi-automatic only versions no different then the AR-15. Just use a different type of bullet.

But they sure look "scary" to people and the gang bangers love the look of it.

And not one fucking child will be affected by whether or not a criminal/crazy person chooses one weapon over another. What a fucking joke. I can't believe over half our country voted for this clown.

BTW an AK 47 would be a pretty good deer hunting weapon. It has more knock-down power than an AR-15 (for example) and I would never take a shot further than 80 yards or so anyway, based on typical whitetail terrain in The South.
