If I'm taking the bulk of this hypothetical risk, there should be proportionately less of an objection to it. This is where we hold me responsible for other people's actions, of course.
Allowing yourself or your loved ones to die or receive grievous injury is not a viable alternative. Surrendering and gambling on the mercy of your attacker is NOT a viable alternative. I would add "being robbed blind" to that list.
Zero. How many house fires have I had? Zero. How many flat tires, dead batteries, etc? A fair number. You don't wait until shit happens to make some basic preparations.
Generally, human lives are more important than property. "That stuff is mine and I want it to continue being mine" isn't enough justification to unalive someone. However, sometimes property isn't just property. If I'm out walking in the woods, and someone runs up, grabs my walking stick, and runs away, it's not a huge deal. Plenty of other sticks around. If I spend a minute or two looking for another stick, it's guaranteed I'll find one that's at least just as good, if not better. Or I could just continue walking without a stick. It's an annoyance, but not worth killing over. If I'm an old man or disabled, and someone runs up and steals my cane, they're doing the same thing as in the above example; stealing a stick. However, to me, it's not just a stick. They also took my ability to walk. I can't continue walking without it, and I can't just find another stick.
Damn right you've got nothing. You can prepare or you can face the consequences for it. Won't always be able to fall back on mommy and daddy.
Is there any level of "preparation" that's too paranoid for you? Or would you have a bomb shelter if you could afford it?
So, what kind of gun should the old man be packing? I'd suspect the kick of a full on Magnum would knock him on his ass. Glock? Snub nose? Derringer?
I think the bomb shelter is where him and @Jenee get it on in the closet with a bottle of water and some MREs.
Yes. Also yes. I would LIVE in a bomb shelter if I could. More efficient for maintaining stable temperatures.
This is precisely why there's an unsolved string of murders behind Mystery Inc for all those crooks who stole Velma's glasses.
Mine is a hardwood staff I got at the renaissance fair. Functional as a quarter staff, should the need arise.
Calling my scenario a “bad analogy” while saying that property is not worth killing for implies that there are some things worth killing for. Sounds like rights and limbs are some of them, for Diacanu. Completely agree, but not every incursion into their territory was with the intent of killing them. Some were just about relocating them. Were those fair game? I think so. other forms that anyone with a bulldozer is likely to respect and to be held accountable by if they fuck up. That’s far from a given in other situations.
I’m not speaking for UA. I’m asking you where you draw the line for things you’re willing to condemn people for being willing to kill over. So answer the question please.
Never been in a house that caught fire, either. Smoke detectors and extinguishers are still worthwhile investments. I hope you are only risking your own smelly carcass.
Sometimes shooting someone SAVES lives. You can either acknowledge this fact or live in self-delusion.
