Yeah, this is a common issue within the black community. Spike Lee did a movie about it in the 90s (Jungle Fever). In it, Wesley Snipe's wife had this hen party after having thrown him out for cheating on her, and the biggest topic of conversation wasn't that he was a dick for cheating, but that he was a dick for cheating with a white woman. It was as if they only cared about that last part. Easily the most disturbing scene in the movie.
The negative connotations aside, if she had ignored the comments instead of speaking out on them this could have very well blown over without becoming drama. Look at it this way, we say plenty of shit about certain members on here. If they were 'famous' would it blow up and be on the news?
Why should she keep quiet? Should blacks in Alabama and Mississippi have just kept quiet back in the 60's? Racism won't be defeated until it is exposed for all the world to see.
And how many other people are subjected to racism? How many of them hit the news with it? It happened, she could have dealt with it on her own. Was it really necessary to go an let the world know about it?
Yes, and we can only hope that more and more of the many other people subjected to racism do the same.
Race bullshit is why my dad listened to his family and married a woman that went on to cheat on him with just about everyone on the block--a woman that his BROTHER had lefy for that same reason--instead of my mom who had "evil white blood" in her. I'm sure both sides will flip shit when I get married cuz he more than likely will be Hispanic.
*Looks up Tamera Mowry* Interesting. She's not even "black-black". She's barely-there black. Only in America would she be still required, by forged-steel societal convention, to be blaaaack blackety blackblackblack dammit, on pain of being some kinda traitor or at best identity confused person. One drop makes the ocean.
That was the reaction I/we got when I dated a black girl waaaay back in the mid '80's. My friends (mostly white) didn't have any reaction what-so-ever, except to comment on how she was a cutie pie. Her friends (all black) stared at me like I was some kind of monster, and later, gave her all kinds of shit for "dating a white dude". Sad in almost thirty years since that incident, not much has changed...
A white reporter friend of mine worked in Atlanta for a couple of years. He told me that when his black girlfriend would come to visit, they got more harassment from black people than they did whites. I've been approached twice about working there. Once, I politely declined. The other time I basically told the guy that there was no amount of money he could pay me to work there.
The reality is, if you look remotely brown and your last name isn't Hispanic, you're black. And whether you're midnight black or "barely there" black, there's gonna be a ton of bullshit from both blacks and whites in your life.
Atlanta is a shithole anyway. Is it because of the black thug culture there? More than likely. I'm going there next week for a few days and I'm not looking forward to it.
