What do you mean by "Sex Tourism" and why is it creepy? Hell, I got pregnant with the now college student at one of those fantasy room hotels for which the exhusband and I received a "gift card". We were both adults. Yes, they asked if we wanted to rent any videos (we didn't), but ... it was hardly creepy.

I don't mean couple's retreats, I mean Thailand hooker shit.
Having the magic boner-man statue gets you laid with random strangers, and it's what Risa is known for.
It's not outright hooking, but I'm sure the cost is passed along somewhere.
Trek puts a cute face on it, but everywhere in Earth history people have tried to make an analog to Risa, its become Thailand.

I never got the impression Risa was likened to Thailand with child sex trafficking. I got the impression it was more like ... Acapulco or something. Maybe Costa Rica. Which may also may well have it's own sex trafficking networks, but ... as I said, I never got that impression from Risa. Nothing else in the Federation implies that that might be the case.

I always just figured that most Risians really like sex. And that on top of that, either the concept of sexual attraction doesn't exist in their society the way it does in ours, or they're attracted to pretty much everybody.

Could be there are no prostitutes on Risa, and when people get done with their day's work as bartenders, masseurs, musicians, and springball instructors, "let's go find a tourist to fuck" is their version of watching TV or puttering around in the garden.

That's pretty much how I pictured it. Not anything like .. what I gathered Diaconu was describing. I thought I was missing something.

So Farpoint Station is way the hell out there. Wouldn’t it have made sense to say we’re heading back to main UFP space in TNG Season One? Was any sense of continuity always going to get the ax?

Well, in Code of Honour (the third story, after Farpoint and The Naked Now) they're on an extremely urgent mission to pick up vaccines, so one could assume they were called back from their exploration mission because they were the closest ship.

The next episode is The Last Outpost, where they're chasing down Ferengi that stole an energy converter from an unmanned outpost. That could have been because they were back outside Federation space and the closest ship again.

After that is Where No One Has Gone Before, where the original plan was to improve the efficiency of the ships warp engines, presumably to help them get their exploration mission back on track? Then after things go sideways, that's pretty much it for the Enterprise going too far out into space.

But then the eighteenth story is the first part of the story about parasites infiltrating Starfleet, so you could argue that at some point during the season Picard's uninfected buddies started intentionally trying to keep the Enterprise close to home, but not too close.

And isn't it a little weird that, if Farpoint is at the very edge of explored space, half of the Enterprise's senior staff got dropped off there by, presumably, at least one other ship?

At any rate, TNG was always wildly inconsistent about distances.

FWIW, I've seen younger Trek fans in Twitter and the Discords I'm apart of side eye it for that reason. Given how horny Roddenberry was, if he didn't have a trip or two to Thailand under his belt, I'd be very shocked.

Given we know next to nothing about Risan culture except they're horny, it's a big, blank canvas for anyone to read into either way. Might be a thing for a future season of Trek to delve into.

    From Memory Alpha:

The concept of Risa was invented by Ira Steven Behr, who based the script for the episode "Captain's Holiday" on it. Gene Roddenberry approved of the idea of the "pleasure planet" but wanted to radically change Risa's culture to incorporate extremely graphic depictions of homosexual behavior, which Rick Berman advised Behr to ignore. (William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge)
Perhaps a Lower Decks episode where the jamarahon turns out to just be over the clothes hand stuff.

eh, I'd take that as an excuse for ... what's the planet where Wesley stepped on some flowers and was to be executed.

I'm really finding it difficult to hate on Risa. As I said, I think it's just supposed to be like a Floridian or Carribean vacation spot. Not like sex traffiking in Thailand.

Presumably Risa is a Federation member so they should be post scarcity, meaning none of the natives are putting out in exchange for food or shelter. :async:

Ah, but Spock was only the Science Officer on TOS. By TWoK, he was a captain. As for Sulu:

Shat has stated that his standard TOS uniform shirt was green but the TV lights made it look yellow. (If you poke around, you can find color publicity photos from when TOS was being launched that feature Shat in the green shirt.) Dunno about George, but given that Sulu's just killing time in TWoK until he gets a ship assignment as captain, I'm not sure his uniform colors 15 years prior mean anything at all.

    "The Thaw".

So, Janeway says they had brain-holodecks (not the word she uses, but go with it) in the early days of the Federation.
    Brain-holodecks before holodecks.
That's like having Oculus, and regressing back to Nintendo.
Or! Maybe things like The Clown led to them abandoning it.
Maybe that shit malfunctioned like a motherfucker, and created Freddys all over the place.
They don't don't quite explore this though.
Its swept under the rug like so many canon glitch thingies.

    "Resolutions".

Oh, for fuck's sake! Let Janeway and Chakotay be a fucking couple!

They flirt, they fall, they fuck.
    You're a couple. Stay a couple.
They don't even break up for a good reason.
"Oh, the ensigns will laugh at us! :(".
Not literally expressed that way, but basically!
    Come the fuck on.
    What is this, junior high!?

In one scene, we've got connections to TOS, M*A*S*H*, Enterprise, DS9, and the Transformers movies (Michael Bay era).
