Just ten episodes in, but I can already see this is turning into something of a mystery. Not much of the classic "sci-fi as a social laboratory" device, but the stories seem intelligent and engaging enough. Decent suspense. Way better than the 70s version.
Glad you like it. Overall it's one of the best sci-fi series in the past 20 years. The story arc gets a bit muddled in the later seasons and the show desperately needed some humor injected into it along the way to overcome the insane darkness. But the acting is the best on television and the Sfx continue to rock all the way through. Wait till you see the Adama Manuever. :santa_azn:
I felt the same way in the early episodes. Unfortunately, for me, it lost itself in the last season and a half or so. And by the end, I was so turned off by the directions they went, it kind of ruined the whole thing for me.
I thought NuBSG was awesome. The ending was a bit rushed IMHO. I think Moore got tire of dealing with SyFy's bullshit and rushed the ending. It could have used another season to flesh a few things out.
I disagree. I say it could've benefitted greatly from tightening up the story and omitting a lot of filler material. Release it in several mini-series arcs: 1) The initial attack/escape, settling into "ragtag refugee fleet" mode. Say up through Kobol, with a lot of consolidation. 2) The Pegasus arc. Ending with the assassination of Cain. 3) The New Caprica arc. Ending, of course, with Exodus. 4) The home stretch to Earth Arc. Roll in the major waypoints like the old satellite thingy and the supernova planet, the "All Along the Watchtower" Final Five stuff and Starbuck's magic wayfinding Viper, through to the last episode. Say about 6 episodes each.
I think it would have also helped if you know..... Moore had an actual plan for the Cylons. We were told the Cylons had a plan but it ultimately turned out that they were as clueless as the Colonials.
I recently re-watched season 3 onwards, brilliant stuff. You can complain that the overall story arcs get a little lost but the writing and acting and individual episodes are absolutely brilliant.
