I got this game yesterday, and have enjoyed playing it quite a bit. I believe is uses the Grand Theft Auto IV engine, but the cool thing is that you're on horseback, and instead of in a major city, you're on the former frontier in 1911.

You get to do cool things like bring in outlaws by hog tying them, shoot deer from horseback and then skin them to sell the hide and meat for money (as well as a plethora of other animals), and develop a reputation - good or bad.

This is some of the most enjoyable game play I've had in a looong time. I recommend it!

Oh, and as is typical, this game looks much better on the 360 than PS3.

I might get it for PC when it drops in price. They always eventually do. As of now, I have too many games to play anyways.

Been thinking of picking this one up. Thanks for the review! I really couldn't get into GTA IV because of all the driving. This might be more to my taste. Have you finished it yet?

That's BS. Any differences in platform usually aren't noticable, IMHO. If that were so, then consider the fact that the 360 uses a standard 9.5 GB DVD and the PS3 uses a 25 BG Blu-Ray for games. You do the math.

Might have to give this one a whirl. I don't know how many more times I can play through DragonAge before I pop- and I really enjoyed GUN back when.

Oh video game makers when will you learn to let the nerds test the games before hand?

You do both and not release the game until its ready.

Will never happen. The nature of games (especially open world games) means there are always going to be exploits and glitches if you look hard enough. There is also risk to take into account. A programmer might have a potential fix for one of those bugs, but it cannot be added because it changes a system that other things rely on. It's the only practical way of doing things, you would not believe how much a seemingly insignificant thing can mess things up elsewhere.

The best example I saw of a game breaking bug fix was one someone committed that just added a single extra line into a text file. That however made that text file slightly bigger, which meant that when it was loaded into memory along with a certain combination of other files it overloaded the consoles memory and caused the entire game to crash. It took hours for a programmer to track down what change had caused that crash.

It would take literally years and millions of dollars to squash all these sorts of bugs. Then when you do so the game is out of date in terms of design and visuals so no-one buys it and you go out of business.

Whatever. I understand that it's a complex process and you may never get ALL the bugs, but the list of bugs on this game looks to be severe and game breaking. I mean, c'mon! The donkey lady? Are you telling me that's not 'fixable'? Jayz!! :jayzus:

It's one thing to release a game with a few bugs- another to rip off your customer with a piece of software that's essentially broken.

And yet I'm halfway through the game without experiencing one glitch.

Like Bailey said, these are from people working to find glitches.

Odd, but in reviews and this thread I haven't seen anyone complaining about the game being buggy or feeling ripped off because there are very rare glitches.

Anything is fixable, something like the donkey lady could be very dangerous to fix at a late stage of production though if it was a problem that emerged towards the end of making the game. It could be there is a problem in the way character models are loaded. Unless it is a game stopping bug, or appears more than 10% or so of the time there is no way a producer would sign off on changing the model loading code at that point. Way too much potential for knock on effects that could severely break the game.

I've played the whole way through the game and never experienced a single bug. Never one lock up and only one case of a texture failure on a character model. For playing the game over 30 hours many of which were bursts of 5 it ran very well. The story is also very good and has a bit of a tragic ending that keeps very well with the theme.

Yeah, I haven't seen one bug at all that hurts the game, although I may have fallen victim to a bug that prevents you from unlocking one of the outfits (Deadly Assassin) by making one of the missions unavailable if you don't do stuff in the right order. If I still have this issue when I get to a certain point, then yeah, I can claim a bug hosed me.

OK, I read a spoiler on how this game ends, and now I'm at the end and don't want to actually beat it.

Because it makes me sad, the way it ends. :'(

I've stayed far, far away from spoilers for the sheer joy of playing the game.

I haven't decided if I'm a bastard or not, but I'm still learning the ropes as it were. What I *can* tell, is that if you're a women in need, and I'm the one who has to save you, you're done for.

But definitely a super fun game and I haven't even gotten too far afield from Armadillo yet.

You know, I've accidentally shot law enforcement a lot in this game. I mean, who runs around and shoots someone in the back? :elwood: :apostle: :poodle:

What I do now is wait to see who is shooting who, and a lot of times I look for badges. :)
