Rep Comments

Are we planning on getting these back? They were pretty useful.

Hopefully at some point but the comments part appears to be pretty complicated. Points are easy. Or even having multiple customized options, something like "9 agrees, 4 disagrees, 1 dayton, 3 orange slices" is easy. But comments aren't. Or at least not that we've found. If someone can find a good add-on that will do it please post it.

 

If were just going to have points can we have negative points to make it worth your while

 

There are aome excellent plugins with vbulletin, the superior platform.

I can set it so YOU can only receive only neg rep. I'll add it to the Faceman usergroup.

 

So go use a board that uses vbulletin.

 

I missed them the first few days, but I don't really care now. It's not like the board is so extremely active that we need rep comments to keep the place from being clogged up.

 

I think the fact the board alerts you to people quoting you makes up for the lack of rep comments, you no longer have to worry that someone won't see your comment and it encourages posting.

 

I think they're worthwhile to get back if it can be done with reasonable effort. It's nice to have the choice of an additional format of communication, and they do have their very own style.

 

There are plenty of times when I'd like to comment on a post without having to quote the thing and repost. Rep comments would solve that issue. I too would like them back if possible.

 

Yeah, mostly because if I want to make a silly joke or something, I'll do it in rep. But I'm not going to interrupt a lively thread to be like "nice av!"

 

Does that work for you? I've stopped following those alerts. For one, they alert me even if my post is only nested within several layers of quotes; and what is worse, it will take me not to the first post in the thread I haven't read, but to the point where I was quoted, so it takes me away from the flow of the general discussion.

 

Not having comments is forcing me to post more... :/

I sort of miss the rep comments myself. That was pretty much the reason I didn't turn rep off on the old board.

I don't care about "agrees" or "disagrees" but rep comments are a good way to make a short comment without derailing the thread.

As a compromise, I say no comments, but we give @Volpone his rep bomb. That should satisfy every possible rep contingency.

 

I've never been clear on what sort of bomb that would be. Would it be a bunker buster, or of the Boris Badenov variety?

I can look into it, yeah. It's 20 euro, though, and they don't do try before you buy.

 

I'm sure I'll get used to it, but so far, I'm not a fan. Of course, I didn't want comments to come back. I found it made me post more.

 

Well, it's been completely revamped by myself. Hopefully, this iteration is better for all involved.
