Rep policy change

Set everybody's rep to 0 every New Year's Day. This will encourage more contribution and, being on New Year's Day, will kick off a celebratory New Year rep thread.

Bah... why? Rep is fun, but rather pointless.

If it's pointless, then you shouldn't care whether or not this happens.

I do care. So if you believe it is pointless, then the implementation of action on this matter ought to be more likely to be in a manner that satisfies my request.

While more contribution is always encouraged there's no reason to think an annual rep reset would help make that happen.

I'm afraid this will make rep less meaningful, and that I will get less attention this way. After all, rep is measured in absolute value.

If rep is pointless, I fail to see how it would make it less meaningful.

When somebody's getting negged into the stone age, it's about the only option they have to "fight back".

It would amuse me to set all rep back to 0 and then limit everyone to, I dunno, three reps per day or something like that.

Isn't whether posters with non-positive rep can give rep a setting you can just flip?
