I have a suggestion involving rep and who can give it out. Specifically, I feel that if someone turns off their rep, they shouldn't be able to give any rep out either. Just a suggestion. ;)

There would be an easy way around that.

    *unhide rep*
    *rep post*
    *hide rep*

I concur. Besides being rep-cowardly, turning off your rep can also mean "I don't want to play the rep game." How is it then they can still give rep when they've publicly said they don't want to participate.

Also, I'm in favor of resetting everyone's rep on the new year. It would make for more interesting dynamics. And it can be spun into the annual Forgies awards for person with most rep, least rep, etc. We can keep a running score of the overall rep each person has and add that total for the year, but I think it's time to change up rep a little.

Sometimes I find myself in a situation where I'm gone for several days at a time and there are threads where I'd like to reply, but would rather not bump if they've been dead for several days. I just did this with a few threads after being gone for four days. Also, see post #2.

    This is a good idea.

If there were some way that could change rep so that it's not just little pixels on a screen, but actual life giving mana, through which you could channel energy across the divide and actually kick someone's ass.

    That would be swell.

What happened to "Rep is fine the way it is!"?

Suddenly those who were the "baddest" neg reppers are asking for a change in rules.

    Why is that?

Captain X and myself are the baddest neg reppers? Gee, thanks, but I don't think I've participated in a rep war for years.

When I said rep is fine the way it is, I was talking in the context of rep being where:
    - green rep means you can give points.
    - red means you cannot give points.

Taking a quote and applying it to all contexts regarding rep is like me asking you if you like Germany, and if you said yes, I'd accuse you of sympathizing with Hitler.

I like evenflow's idea for rep the best, but if that can't be done, then a rep reset every year would be good because it would bring more drama and rep whining, which is in turn entertainment for all of us.

It isn't supposed to be fun. It's supposed to be agreement/disagreement when you don't need nor want to waste time and space on a post to express yourself.

If you're bored with the games you've created with it...

I just figure that if someone has decided to stay out of the whole rep thing that they ought to, you know, stay out of it and not be able to give any out if they can't take it. Makes sense to me.

That already exists. It's called alcohol.
Though, maybe rep can be issued like a coupon for a dollar off a poster's favorite beer/wine/whisky/mouthwash.

If that's the case then there should be no problems with removing the whole 'points' aspect of it.

    There wouldn't be.

But every time we have a poll, the community overwhelmingly votes to leave things as they are.

If that trend changes, then I'm sure we'd entertain a rep overhaul.

I say we change it so that you get unlimited rep per day, and in fact you can give any amount of rep you please to a given post, either positive or negative.

However, in order to use rep, you have to provide a credit card number, and it costs a nickel to hand out rep, whether it be positive or negative.

If you get pushed into the red, you can still play the rep game, but now each point you deal out costs a buck. :ramen:

    Hilarious!

But then only American and Canadian conservatives could afford rep!

I sure as hell don't value it enough to pay for it.

But, then, it wasn't until this latest skirmish that felt the need to seek out other's posts to rep - positively or negatively.

I could very well see people like you, sokar, kirk et al, spending all kinds of money in order neg someone you dislike.
