It would be interesting to know what the bottom half of the fractions are in those statistics. Is he talking about percentage of eligible voters who vote, or is he talking about percentage of the population that votes? If it's the latter, it would also be interesting to see the rate for all groups individually, not just "Black voters" and "everybody."

McConnell did not compare the voting rate of Black people to the voting rate of white people, which makes me wonder if there's a reason he chose the statistic he did. Black and white Americans are the two largest racial groups who are the most likely to be natural-born citizens, while the overall voting rate might be reduced due to the number of people who are ineligible to vote. Black Americans are more likely to be eligible to vote than Hispanic Americans, for instance, because Black Americans are both older on average and more likely to be natural-born citizens. Which means, along with the factor @Order2Chaos mentioned, that McConnell's statistic could be papering over a lot of things.

Probably. But it reads as if he (McConnel) is making a distinction.

This is the problem with data collection. Most statistics are based on the very broadest of terms. Much like gun violence. To look at the FBI website, one would think black men out there murdering people all over the place. It's just not true. Same reason FF thinks single parent households result in children becoming criminals. Regardless of race, people who feel the most disenfranchised (right or wrong) are the ones who vote more. White, middle class, 20something, Americans don't vote in the same numbers as white middle class, 40something, Americans.

This is why most people bitch about being "labeled" because general labels don't apply to everyone. There is more data to be collected - for all statistics.

Why do Republicans hate our military heroes?
I don't know how Texas voting laws work, but re-registering might be illegal.

Hopefully the State SC will toss it, but still fuck them for trying this bullshit. If it gets through, let's hope it fucks them in the arse as many of their own voters rely on it as they skew older.

Both sides and there is no difference between the two parties. Right? One of the things I’ve noticed about the Trump Party is their view that if you are associated with government you are either there to advance the Trump agenda or you are a member of the Deep State. So you have election officials who have done outstanding work for years being targeted and harassed by Trump devotees. Can you really blame the ones who are quitting?

One academic type argues that Republicans may have overplayed their hand when it comes to gerrymandering.
Indeed Republicans, having closed off both the legislative and the judicial paths to ban partisan gerrymandering nationally, are belatedly realizing that they don't like it after all. Prominent Republican pollster Patrick Ruffini complained on Twitter about Democratic-led non-partisan redistricting reform campaigns: "It was never about stopping gerrymandering. Instead, it was all about power." New York State Republican Party Chairman Nick Langworthy attacked the state's gerrymander, likely to return 22 Democrats and just four Republicans to D.C., as a "brazen and outrageous attempt at rigging the election to keep Nancy Pelosi as speaker."

The GOP's redistricting own-goal represents a very rare failure of Republican national strategy to play maximal "constitutional hardball" — using every possible opportunity under the legal order to pursue partisan advantage, even if such maneuvers violate widely accepted normative principles and expectations. It's not something Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) would ever have allowed to happen if this were his operation.

North Carolina Supreme Court throws out Gerrymandered maps.
"When, on the basis of partisanship, the General Assembly enacts a districting plan that diminishes or dilutes a voter's opportunity to aggregate with likeminded voters to elect a governing majority-that is, when a districting plan systematically makes it harder for one group of voters to elect a governing majority than another group of voters of equal size-the General Assembly unconstitutionally infringes upon that voter's fundamental right to vote."

So people 65 and older have earned the right to vote early? What about everyone else? Putting aside that Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is a moron, why is the Republican Party so laser focused on establishing voter castes?

Remember a few years back when Texas Republicans determined it was ok to use your handgun license as voter ID but a state-issued photo ID from a state university was completely invalid? The insidious amount of hatred Texas Republicans have for everyone else in their state is quite staggering.

WTF? Polling station staff in Texas are allowed to be partisan, so there are separate lines for Dem and GOP voting?!

    https://theintercept.com/2022/03/15/texas-voting-restrictions-poll-workers/

Apparently this affected both parties (some of it down to COVID), but the Dems disproportionately due to:

Dem polling staff are worried they'll be sued since you just fucking know the MAGA crowd will cry blue murder over any results they THINK look iffy (i.e. anything less than a landslide for them), so they're reluctant to come in.

I like the message of the forever purge which is that it all really starts with allowing the gun nuts to start stockpiling guns while being obviously crazy and violent. Eventually things break down and the violent people are the enemy of every sane person around.

It is a great sales technique for the gun manufacturers. Sell a lot of guns to the crazies so the regular people have to start buying guns to protect themselves in an emergency that you created by giving every nut in town a gun.
That is an awesome way to sell guns to a lot of people who really do not want to waste money on one.
