Gerrymandering fucked up a district in TN and even some of the ballots issued are wrong for what district a person is in.
Not mentioned in that article is that it has been unclear for months exactly what the borders for the district were and even now, it's still hard to find out exactly what district you're in, if you live in the old 6th district. How do I know this? I happen to live in the area that might be part of the old district, or it might be part of the new one. The map is literally so convoluted that my neighbors on either side of me might be in one district, while I'm in a different one.

Democrats won a majority in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, but one member died shortly before the election, and two others resigned because they were elected to higher offices, giving Republicans a slight -- and because of the districts involved, almost certainly temporary -- edge.

Now Republicans are shrieking their heads off in an effort to stop special elections from being held to fill the vacancies.

My guess would be it takes away alternative paths to casting a vote.

The most restrictive form of ID law is "no ID, no vote."

Then there's what Michigan has, which is "if you don't have an ID, you have to sign an affidavit attesting to who you are." This creates an additional paper trail, and likely also adds an additional item that you can be charged with if you're impersonating somebody. (Incidentally, every time I go to vote, at least two of the election workers are people I already know, and if I were signing an affidavit attesting to being somebody else, they'd notice.)

Then if you go one step further, it's "you have to sign an affidavit, and also your ballot is a provisional ballot, which won't be counted unless it's mathematically possible for provisional ballots to change the outcome of any race, in which case they will all be investigated one at a time to see if they were legitimately cast."

Years ago Dobbs had a good show on CNN. Maria Bartiromo was also a good host on CNBC. What is it about Fox that made the two of them turn into absolute nutballs peddling nonstop conspiracy theories?

...but seriously folks, it's interesting to me that so many people in news and talk radio are so willing to sell out. It's not unlike traitors who sell out the U.S. only the media sellouts in many cases are doing it for a lot more money. On the other hand, you've got plenty of newsroom types and fringe talk hosts happily selling out for not enough money to pay their rent. But as Steinbeck said "socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” Good an explanation as any for why the Bill Carson types so happily go with the Trumpistas. :brood:

I’m mangling it but something, something: It is hard to get a man to understand something when his paycheck depends on him not.

Agreed but for all we know he is or at least will be a millionaire at some point.

We have no idea of the size of his fortune only that his family was wise enough to not give it all to him until he at least turns 18. Maybe later.

A thread that historians have brought out in recent years is that Socialism (not as a political philosophy so much as what we might better call "social democracy") actually did gain a lot of traction via the success of a lot of the New Deal and the big business folks, CoC and so forth, were in an absolute panic about this and the New Deal in general and they came to hit on a plan based on a survey that said people were much more likely to believe a thing if they heard it from their minister.

Plan being to co-opt pulpits as evangelists of "free market" as good for everyone - basically the baseline premise of Reaganomics: leave business alone to make all the money they can and we'll all prosper. This was the actual beginning of the eventual merger of the SBC and GOP - the Predator Class formalizing the concept that religion helped create foot soldiers for the oligarchy who would vote against their own self interest because it became an article of faith, not just politics. Also helped solidify tribalism. Then when you mix in the disgruntled segregationists' anger, as a sort of morter to bind it all together...
    Here we are.

(keep in mind, some elements of this same group were plotting a coup against Roosevelt as early as 1933 so they have NEVER prioritized democracy, liberty, etc over profits - fascism can be very profitable for the right people)

Isn't that story kind of burying the lede? Geotargeting is common and pretty unremarkable, but the fact that they're willing to lie so blatantly seems like it should be commented on more prominently.
