It doesn't really matter too much to me since I'm not in the habit of being an obnoxious racist asshat. I was fine with the way it's always been and would also have been fine with a clear message of what exactly was changing....before the change, not after...and not with the attitude that the people questioning wtf just happened are the ones being ridiculous.

I genuinely like both John and Gul. I think they can both be clever and I find their posts entertaining. Neither one of them should ever be the messenger for this kind of thing though, as they both have a tendency to come across as patronizing (part of why their regular posts are funny, imo).

Oh, please. Chup's weekly leaving forever is my fault now? The guy has been doing that since before I started posting here most of a decade ago. He has been trying to quit this place for years; at least since people gave him shit for the terrorist dumping him.

On the first, in general I don't think a fuck up should get someone permabanned. In my mind the guys lost the plot and went too far (way too far) but it's not like they were doing this every day. While their using racism as a troll reflects poorly on their judgement and raises questions, it wasn't a sustained pattern of behavior. In other words, if they come back I don't think they will go right back to doing it.

Gturner on the otherhand was only here to troll and disrupt. Like Castle, if he was let back in he might play nice for a bit, but he'd go right back to his old ways once he felt the heat was off.

And lastly, while some could argue it shouldn't matter, in my mind longevity plays a part, as does community involvement. Rep and Obama certainly degraded Ramen and Volpone, but they are still actual people that we've known for over 15 years now. They had Green Room threads and Blue Room threads and were a part of our community. Gturner doesn't have the history and he didn't want to be part of our community. His entire purpose here was to see how long he could get away with disrupting our community.

Stop making excuses, admit you fucked up, and bring gturner back.

Banning gturner was the best decision the Admins made. They might not think so because of the backlash, but it was an excellent decision. He needed to go.

Actually, I was one of the few people who consistently stuck up for you. A lot of other people bitched and complained when the stuff you tried out to improve the board with (like the attempt to bring back rep comments) didn't work out, but I always stuck up for you and gave you kudos for at least trying. Where you went wrong is when you went from your technical role to trying to socially engineer the board to fit some vision you had for it, and this latest bit with gturner is just the inevitable conclusion of that. And you're damn right I've bitched and griped about that, and I'm going to keep on doing it for as long as you have this attitude. I'm also going to keep reminding you that while gturner didn't actually drive anyone off, you and gul managed to run off Paladin, one of the best posters this board had left.

You realize I have no part in any of this any more, right? That said, Paladin left of his own volition. His choice. If I leave, it will be my choice, and of my own volition. Paladin left because he was upset about gturner being banned, I'll leave if gturner is brought back. Of course, that's a trade you'd be fine with, so hey, maybe you'll get your wish. Regardless, I simply do not care anymore because the community will make its choice. They will likely choose the cheap entertainment by allowing gturner to return, because humanity does tend to skew in that direction. He left as a direct result of how he was treated by the Admin staff. But if you really wanted to argue that, along with the idea that gturner was somehow so disruptive that allegedly others quit or posted less because of him, then the same "they left of their own volition" could be said of them, and again there is no reason gturner should have been singled out the way he was, let alone permabanned.

Nope, and he didn't leave as a direct result of how the Admin staff treated him. He left because we banned gturner, and he didn't like it. His prerogative. Not every action the Admins take will be popular, it just won't. Some people will leave, others might return, it depends upon each individual. Gturner was rightfully banned. I realize he's a pet here, because he is entertaining for some, as a punching bag, but he needed to go. He deserved to be banned. He was an awful person, and a shit poster who constantly disrupted the board, "entertaining" as he was be damned, and did so with the sole purpose of disrupting the board. I said if the rule making the red room into a safe space where mods get wife interpretative powers about the rules goes through then, yes, the primary reason for me posting here would be gone. We already have the heavily modded green room for that purpose and Fe people choose to make use of it so why turn the active free speech zone that is the red room into another empty forum?

Either way, John is, as usual, being a complete man child here refusing to admit he was wrong and that a man who never broke any rule should not be permabanned simply because John doesn't like him. John is acting like the cartoon obsessed cross dressing man child he had always been and seems pathologically incapable of admitting when he is wrong.

What ever my other faults I have always freely admitted when I was proven wrong so that is one thing I have up on him.
