Agreed. The government shouldn't be doing it. Not for the Volt nor the Leaf which until this article I had never heard of.
Hmmm Googled Rush Limbaugh sponsors. OnStar is Gm, no? No matter, the only things I wanted to point out were that a) that the magazine was capable of choosing a car that they had actually test driven and b) the things Liz didn't bother to read.
Thirded. And, all other things being roughly equal, I'd be more likely to get the Nissan for it not being a GM product. Already gave them enough money in the last few years.
Time to further deconstruct the original post's mess? It was pointed out that GE's buying a bunch of these "wonder cars" for their fleet. Well, you don't really have to wonder why. Yeah. I'm sure AlGore is still smiling all the way to the bank as the eco-evangelist is still reaping profit from his Jim Bakker-style scams.
Further proof of the author's attack dog yapping style? He can't even keep his snide remarks straight. I'd have a lot more respect for him if he could stick to the facts. Maybe if he tried, he wouldn't screw them up so bad.
The government: financing with taxpayer money things that make no economic sense since the dawn of human civilization.
They have to give people $7,500 to get anyone to even look at a Volt. That's kind of like tying a pork chop around your kid's neck to get the family dog to play with him and then calling him kid of the year.
Sadly, Motor Trend is now just another political battlefield and no longer a source of news for the automotive enthusiast.
It's pretty obvious. I doubt it's a coincidence GM cars were declared "Car of the Year for 2011" in multiple places the same time GM floats it's IPO.
No, you idiot. Rush clearly said that he wanted Obama's POLICIES to fail if they lead to an increase in socialism. Maybe you should actually try listening to Rush once in a while if you are going to troll him instead of getting your sources from Daily Kos or Democratic Underground.
Here it is the end of 2010 and the 2011 model car is not even out yet? Takes time to ramp up , my ass, they should have started end of June like most car makes and it could be up and running. Its a game. Notice the 237 miles per gallon is dropping pretty quick. The government even created a special confusing fuel mileage stick for their new car. I notice the battery range is now 35 miles instead of 40. The thing looks way too heavy to be a real green vehicle. I would like one of the buyers to keep track of every dime they spend on that car, from sticker, insurance, special electric outlet installed in the home, etc and then do a comparison with a regular IC economy car like a Hyundai and see how much they save Don't get me wrong, I think electric cars are the answer, I just don't think batteries supplying that electricity is the answer or ever will be. To really work we need something like two metal strips going down the road with power on them to run the cars and then a small battery in the car to get it from the road to the driveway. The losses from charging a battery to get power from it are tremendous. Hydrogen might still be a better solution for efficient use of electricity, but still that is just transferred pollution. We use more power, they burn more coal at progress energy.
Just doing some more thinking on this. Lets do the math guys. lets say that this car does all that they say it will do. 35 mile range and no gas burned. After that it runs on an IC engine and gets 37mpg. Lets, then say that instead of this car, you buy an economy car that gets 35mpg average with a regular I/C engine. The average commute back and forth to work is less than 35 miles according to them so lets say you drive 17 miles each way. The regular gas car would burn 1 gallon of gas, where the Volt would burn none every day for 5 days of work a week. At the end of the week you have saved 5 gallons of gas with the volt compared to the gas car. Lets say gas is 4 bucks a gallon so that saves $20 a week in gas. That is $80 a month minus the cost of electricity to charge the volt. Now, how much does the volt cost minus the $7500 tax break? About $33,000, last I checked but probably more plus the cost of installing the charger in your home. You could get the new Ford Fiesta for 13K and its 29 city,40hwy so around 35 average. That is over 20K difference in price alone. If your loan is 5%, that alone is going to cost your more than you save in gas, plus the difference in price.
I don't see why they give any award to any car until it has been tested by the American public. Though, I always thought motor trend was in GMs back pocket. Maybe this is like the Nobel peace prize.
I don't think so... I looked at 2009's page on that year's competition and this is what it says: Read more: http://blogs.motortrend.com/2009-mo...ealed-whats-your-pick-2047.html#ixzz16GTHMucr It was posted in 2008 for the 2009 Car of the Year and it had to be on sale from 2007. This implies that this year's should have been on sale since November 2009, doesn't it?
Oh, look. This year there is no mention of when it went on sale for the first time....but "smaller carbon footprint" is suddenly a criteria for the award. http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear...enders_and_finalists/judges_and_criteria.html All part of the Government Nudging Program to control the sheeple.
Obama fail != America fail. The obvious point that the left never wrapped it's pinhead around. In fact, from Rush's point of view (and mine) Obama fail = America win and Obama win = America fail. context is everything.
YES! Like "slot cars" from back in the day, but on a bigger scale. It makes senses - trains run on a similiar system. Make the main roads like train tracks. Side roads you can use the gas portion of your car untril you get to the elecrified road. Engineers should be all over this!
Yeah. I can imagine the greens would be all for the 10,000 extra nuke plants we'd need to power all these slot cars.
The changes to infrastructure would be huge and in climates where it snows maintenance costs would be as well.
I dunno... which patients didn't come to your hospital? Who didn't win the beauty pageant? You might have another try at reading post 24 Maybe it's CotY because it's an honest to goodness revolutionary product that just raised the bar? I don't decide or give a flying fuck what the CotY is. I only point these things out because you come across as a jingoistic retard. For the gods know how many-ith time it was A) either S&W or Colt (it was Colt) and B) neither invented the hand held gun nor the revolver.
