You also seem to have one hell of a Republican gerrymander. In a state that voted for Obama twice the state Senate is 23-10 Republican, the State House is 60-39 Republican, and the U.S. House delegation is 12-4 Republican. And your current governor, whom you're about to reelect, is a grade-A moron.
It's be nice if that were true, but I've met too many people IRL who espoused the same views. And ones far more horrific.
Well, let your science-fiction brain go there as you write the set-up for your novel about the year 2053. You have the voice over explain what mankind did when the FDA approved the a prenatal diagnostic test that could detect a host of development conditions. Manufacturing was done in China and the machines became the defacto standard not just in the West, but throughout Asia, the Middle East, India, and Latin America, You all know what would happen in most of those places. Heck, the Chinese will abort a baby just because it's a girl. If the Arabs had a real 'gaydar' system they'd weaponize it and go through the markets in pairs, one guy scanning people and his partner shooting them if the scanner beeped.
Seriously. It's not going to be the one thing that science never figures out. Pretending it will isn't realistic.
Yeah, our state's as fucked up as a football bat. Boehner, who has a very low approval rating here, will still get elected, and he'll do it without sweating it.
They're going to find the bat shit Neanderthal conservative gene too. Just wait to see how that works out.
Actually, the conservative genes are more advanced. They allow strangers to work together in complex societies. Liberal traits are more primitive and tribal, centered on reciprocity and fairness. A psychologist was stunned a few years ago when his university study showed that conservatives could replicate liberal reasoning on an issue (effectively imitating their thought process), but liberals couldn't do the same for conservative reasoning. The conservative mind remains beyond their understanding, so they just assume it's evil or twisted. And of course, conservatives are proud to have lots of conservative kids, while liberals hardly breed at all outside of Hollywood and trailer parks. *poke* So back to the original thought, the question is "who is making the babies?" Following that up, who is making the gay babies? The answer in probably 98 percent of cases is "straight couples." Depending on what kind of technology comes down the pike, that means that potentially up to 98 percent of gay babies won't be born gay anymore. And that's here, where gays are achieving complete acceptance. It's a conclusion that follows from understanding how people actually act, in that moment when the doctor walks in, instead of how we wish they would act. As I mentioned, Down's syndrome kids aren't being born very often anymore, and those that are are being born to conservative parents. In the US, only a third of Down's babies are carried to term (67 percent abortion rate), while in more liberal Europe, only 8 percent are born (a 92 percent abortion rate). If it could be cured in the womb, the number of kids born with Down's would probably be around zero. Parents want perfect babies, and given a choice, they are the deciders. What will unfold depends on whether someone invents a diagnostic test first, or whether a researcher goes "Aha! So that's why that happens. We can fix that with a simple protein intervention." I know it sounds depressing, and it is. But it's also so predictable that it shouldn't hit society out of left field. But given the total head in the sand attitude about this possibility, what will probably happen is that the news will announce a new prenatal test, then two years later someone will do a news story about parental choices, and then fifteen years after that Buzzfeed will run a news story about how teens aren't coming out as gay on Facebook like they used to. Only then will gay people start screaming, with some admitting "Yeah, well, my partner and I also opted to have a straight baby, but what the Christians are doing is just wrong!"
I'm not even going to touch that "conservative" genes are more advanced bull shit. It is not worth my effort.
Because your side for all its talk only shows up to vote in presidential elections. It's not the fault of republicans that democrats chooses to sit out gubernatorials and mid-terms.
Mom jeans. Like lesbian shoes. Actually, I always picture conservatives either wearing Dockers - riding low under the beer gut - or those sleazy polyester pants from Sears. Those they wear up under their armpits with four inches of white sock showing.
I hear there is a certain poster who is into lesbian shoes but he is banned though he enjoys co.ing back with duals.
Wow. Even by the absurdly low standards of pop-evo-psych drivel, gturner's emission stands out as particularly ridiculous and laughable. It' worse than believing pink and blue are hard coded into our genes as girl and boy colors respectively.
That is because it is bullshit. All of it. Bullshit. gturner is a purveyor of bullshit. He was a purveyor of bullshit at TBBS, he is a purveyor of bullshit here. All I can imagine is that you guys are so starved for conversation, that his posts are worth expending energy on.
John, I don't think anything said by or in response to gturner has anything to do with conversation with him. Some people are rubbernecking at the car wreck, and some people are feeding him roofies, hoping for an even more spectacular car wreck next time. No one's conversing.
Well, here's a start from the University of Virginia How and why do moral judgments vary across the political spectrum? To test moral foundations theory (J. Haidt & J. Graham, 2007; J. Haidt & C. Joseph, 2004), the authors developed several ways to measure people’s use of 5 sets of moral intuitions: Harm/care, Fairness/reciprocity, Ingroup/loyalty, Authority/ respect, and Purity/sanctity. Across 4 studies using multiple methods, liberals consistently showed greater endorsement and use of the Harm/care and Fairness/reciprocity foundations compared to the other 3 foundations, whereas conservatives endorsed and used the 5 foundations more equally. This difference was observed in abstract assessments of the moral relevance of foundation-related concerns such as violence or loyalty (Study 1), moral judgments of statements and scenarios (Study 2), “sacredness” reactions to taboo trade-offs (Study 3), and use of foundation-related words in the moral texts of religious sermons (Study 4). These findings help to illuminate the nature and intractability of moral disagreements in the American “culture war.” Keywords: morality, ideology, liberal, conservative From Plos One comes a study on liberals versus conservatives views about how the other side thinks. 3a. Conservatives were most accurate about the individual-focused moral concerns of either side, and liberals were least accurate. So there you go.
Not just conservatives, but also a lot of liberals (they'll just not admit their reasons for having an abortion), and pretty much everyone in India, China, the Middle East, and the rest of Asia. Of course this all assumes that brain differences would be detectable early enough to avoid a late-term abortion. What you think might unfold depends heavily on what medical technology you think we might come up with. Think of it as a Michael Crichton type of story. Man has moral hubris. Man invents a way to determine quite complex things about a fetus's developing brain. Man starts dabbling in family eugenics. You don't need a Bene Gesserit reverand mother to give you the water of life to see this future coming. It's a train barreling down the tracks.
How do you reconcile that claim with the fact that conservative attitudes are more common in sparsely populated areas, whereas dense urban centers tend to be more liberal?
Because conservatives know that dense urban centers are ground zero for a nuclear attack. That's why we put all the liberals there and then for decades set our nuclear launch codes all to 0,0,0,0,0,0.
