I see Lindell has been bitching about being "cancelled". Man, those "the market will decide" types sure screech the loudest when they've made their own brand toxic, don't they?

That particular line of history never held much interest for me - was this before or after the Bowling Green massacre?

A tendency to think voters hold more conservative views than they do is a self fulfilling prophecy, as both parties subsequently drag the Overton window to the right.

The truth of it, I think, is that the “average” American voter is fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

Well ... that, or the average American says they're fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

For one group, because it's a convenient way for Republicans to dodge having to answer for the ugliness, bigotry, and general all-around trashiness their party advocates: "Oh, sure, I vote for people who say those things, but those aren't my beliefs. I just want lower taxes."

For a different group, because the Right has done such a good PR job over the last 50 years or so convincing voters that fiscal liberalism is bad, even though fiscally liberal policies tend to poll extremely well.

The more arrogant and narcissistic a person is, the more they tend to think of them self as "the perfect example of an average person." It seems like a paradox, but it really isn't when average is considered "the best possible state." As a result, many people with extreme positions think of themselves as being perfectly reasonable and middle-of-the-road. Not because they actually fall in the middle statistically, but because their views are perfect and should be where the middle is.

It's kind of like that George Carlin thing where he points out that most drivers think "everyone driving slower than me is an idiot and anyone driving faster than me is a maniac," no matter where they actually fall on the bell curve of driving speed.

Eh, for some sure, but you can't generalise it that far.

Different country, but in our Aus election last month a bunch of the seats the ruling conservative party lost weren't to other parties but to independents, who largely campaigned on being by nature economically conservative but disgusted by the way the previous government was trying to makes trans people look scary, pro-refugee, and in favour of climate action.

Makes sense since we elected a guy who's son was given a golden chair at the table of the oil industry.

Isn't it just a little convenient that a war broke out as soon as the easily controlled puppet was in place as president?
