Isn’t the solution now achieving herd immunity via a combination of vaccine and infected based immunity? Like we can’t rely on every one to get vaccinated. It’s been offered to everyone for months now in America. Maybe what we need is a strong fourth wave to infect and kill the remaining vaccine hold outs.
Yeah, at the very start. They abandoned it fairly quickly but it caused a lot of deaths. And there has continually been a large section of the Tory party pushing him in that direction, causing things to happen too slowly and making the pandemic worse.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/minis...-shot-blocks-majority-of-serious-delta-cases/ Pfizer may be only 64% effective against Delta infections, and only 93% (down from > 98%) at preventing hospitalization. A huge FUCK YOU to every person who is unvaccinated by choice, and I hope you get hit by a bus.
I seem to remember that as the first trials were underway that researchers were figuring anything over 50% would be a win.
Yeah, because it was a new virus and a new type of vaccine rushed into production. A 50% figure would buy us all time while they developed better ones.
And then the R0 was no higher than 2.6. Delta's is between 5 and 8. We need even more effective vaccines and more complete distribution as time goes on and the surviving variants become more virulent through natural selection, not less.
We're at (or beyond) the point where the truly hesitant (not the outright anti vaxxers) must know someone who's had the vaccine and still hasn't grown a second head or become impotent.
I don't know if I've mentioned this before or not, but I work with a guy who's daughter is a doctor at Vanderbilt and he refuses to get the vaccine because he's certain that the government is going to send you a bill for it at some point. I haven't had a chance to ask him if he's afraid of the needle.
Offer to pay the bill for him if one ever comes, and offer to put it in writing and get it notarized. If he still won't do it, tell him you'll pray for him... to step into traffic
Telemarketing scam centre of the world also happens to be vaccine scam centre of the world I'm shocked. Shocked, I say!
Hey Yahoo, CBS -- where the fuck is 'Bengal'? I'm going to be a pedant but there's no such place. You say 'the eastern state of Bengal' -- do you mean West Bengal? Protip: 'Bengal' is both West Bengal and Bangladesh. CBS, you claim at least 500 cases in 'Bengal', but don't note where, which is strange because you specify Mumbai in Maharshtra. Was it in Kolkata? Howrah? Siliguri? Durgapur? Darjeeling? I get that us Americans couldn't find any of these cities on a map if our lives depended on it, but fuck your sloppy reporting.
As we reopen and vaccination rates climb, there's been a lot of talk here in Canada about "vaccine passports" and the concern about human rights, second-class citizens, etc. I say boo-fucking-hoo. Unless you have a legitimate medical reason not to get one, vaccination is a choice. If you choose to be a dumbass motherfucker, you can be a second-class citizen for all I care. Fuck the unvaccinated. These are the same cocksuckers who prolonged the pandemic (thus killing more people) by not heeding public health protocols.
I'm with you. I'm also fed up with the "Fire Fauci" douchebags (you know the ones pushing the "Fauci lied, people died bullshit?) If Fearless Leader hadn't lied his fucking ass off from the get-go and had actually encouraged safe behavior, we'd be in a much better place and I suspect Canada (at least) would be as well.
When’s the Sturgis motorcycle rally? I’m waiting for that epic super spreader event to cut down some more unvaccinated idiots.
Just got the results for my second COVID test: negative. I'm fully vaccinated of course, but I had a 102-degree fever on Monday. Just a bad cold I guess.
I still hope they've cancelled it. Not for any love of the attendees, but because every new million-ish cases is potentially a new mutation, rendering the vaccine less and less potent. This is why I've switched to hoping they get hit by buses.
Got my tickets and hotel booked for AWA. A large gathering of anime geeks in an enclosed and crowded space. Every year is a potential for getting some form of sickness. It is called being human. I got my vaccine and I am done living without. The fearmongering over the delta variant is pissing me off. Everything I have read says the vaccine helps mitigate what was the potential to get more than a cold from COVID. I am not living in fear of it anymore, and I do not care about potentially spreading the delta variant to kill the anti-vaxers. They do not care about spreading it or getting hospitalized for it, so I don't care. At this point those who cannot get vaccinated are in the same boat they were in before COVID. I will watch to see if things change, and also to see if the vaccine fades within 6 months, but I am not putting any more of my life on hold caring about anti-vax people. I actually want them to get sick and die and for their families and friends to suffer from their loss. Maybe next time they will vaccinate. At this point the best thing for society is to see the painful deaths of anti-vaxxers from COVID.
I'd love to see a mobile vaccination stand loaded up with J&J one shot show up there. Of course, it might be turned over and burned by the anti-vaxxers in the crowd...
