hmmm....Trump didn't consult with Europe because he had to move fast - so he initiates a travel ban and now Europe is pissed off at him. I don't really see any ego stroking there. If he had moved immediately to initiate a ban he'd have been accused of being a racist for banning travel from China. Oh wait, he was hammered for that.
Every scenario ends with Trump being wrong! It's really quite amazing to be honest, but not unexpected. Here is my proposition to everybody bitching & moaning & worrying:
do the right thing and quarantine yourself right this minute. BAM just like that - too easy. Now you're part of the solution and not the problem.

Side note - major league spring training might be canceled. The motel at which I will be staying during my Phoenix visit next week is ground zero for spring training - Surprise Arizona. The motels are DOUBLE the cost of what they would normally be the rest of the year. So will my motel still charge me double, or will they cut me a break since the spring training demand for baseball fans won't be there now? What say you wordforge?

This topic was on local talk radio. If the kids aren't in school and both parents work, will they have to stay home (and eat vacation days) to babysit their kids? Day care centers can't absorb a sudden bum-rush of kids on short notice. If they have impromptu volunteer centers for the kids during the day (churches or the YMCA or whatever) now you have kids crowded into an even smaller, more congested area with less trained supervision! This is not a "snow day" here. Weeks of kids having nowhere to go during the day will....I repeat will....end in tragedy because families will put kids in jeopardy leaving them
unattended or supervised by idiots. Maybe not in every town but it will happen. There has to be a workable solution and "work from home" rarely applies to lowest paid workers who cannot miss work or afford day care even if they can find an opening for their kids. That is difficult under the best of conditions!

My heart truly goes out to anybody with kids in school too young to be left unsupervised.

How long does it take to give someone in the EU a heads up to give them a chance to start cancelling flights and warn the travelers to change their plans? An extra day or so before announcing it to the world couldn't have hurt.

Here's a scenario for travelers that make it out of Europe and into America before the ban. Eventually they have to go back. Europe might just say "not no, but hell no!" Wouldn't that be a bitch? Not a good time to be traveling internationally right now that's for sure!

Coronavirus patients may be contagious for weeks longer than first thought, study says

Some people who get the coronavirus could be contagious for a lot longer than the two-week quarantine period that many countries are using, a new study says.

Researchers looking at cases in China say patients could spread the virus for up to 37 days after they start showing symptoms, according to the study published in the British medical journal The Lancet.

On average, survivors still had the virus in their respiratory system for about 20 days and could presumably continue to spread the disease, researchers found.

every once in a while changing channels I'll catch a commercial showing clips of fake wrestling. They are diving off of big ladders onto each other. But yeah anybody who thinks fighting with rules isn't really fighting doesn't know shit about the sport. Even the straw weight (115 pounds) females in the UFC - while following the rules - could kick any of our asses six ways from Sunday even if we didn't have to follow any rules!
