The flu is more prevalent but much less lethal. If this were to be as prevalent as the normal flu we’d be looking at orders of magnitude more deaths than by normal flu. So the idea is to contain it before it can get that widespread.
Plus China has a record of fudging the numbers when it comes to disease outbreaks in order to make it look less bad than they really are.
Rule of thumb, if the numbers coming out of china would be embarassing, if you multiply that figure by 100 you'll have a figure closer to reality.
"...the only thing worse than being stuck in an internment camp is being stuck in an internment camp when there’s a deadly virus on the move." I HATE when that happens!
Some good news, it looks like the head of the CDC wasn’t appointed for his bootlicking but is actually competent and a virologist. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_R._Redfield Deputy is a long term CDC employee and former Acting Director. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Schuchat So we got that going for us.
I'm puzzled. Why the fuck are several dozen governments (including the United States and Canada) sending planes to evacuate their citizens from quarantine zones?!?!? Doesn't that violate the entire concept of a "quarantine"?
Of course the sisters of battle getting a proper codex and new minis would be the 7th seal, releasing the final plague. But seriously, a virus that spreads during incubation pops up 8 miles from a bio weapon lab juuuuuuuuust before half the dense urban local population is set to scatter to the winds for a holiday? Yeah, this is a bio attack.
do you really trust the Chinese to put them on their own planes to send them out, or to quarantine them "in place" and stonewall the fuck out of the countries trying to monitor their progress? Smart move to go to China, screen them yourself, and screen them at points along the route until they arrive in their home countries then screen/monitor them some more. At this point I would say letting China handle it is very risky. "The truth" is whatever it needs to be to suit their cultural priorities. A "straight answer" is also a moving target depending on how if affects cultural priorities. Asian countries (Japan, Korea, China mainly) have widely varying cultures, but one thing they do have in common is placing social/historical/cultural concerns and traditions above any "absolutes".
you're right! Matter-of-fact in post #106 that Dead Kennedy's song? That's an actual pic of the gub'mint trying to pry the bio-weapons from my cold, dead hand! google it!
Since the flu hits populated poor areas really hard the republicans and establishment dems are really going overboard in their anti-bernie campaign. Killing off population centers is a hell of a way to win an election and blame it on china. I see Hillary behind this. That whole epstein thing was just a distraction. That is a joke.
They’ll be quarantined in the home countries. The US is using a facility in California. Australia is using its controversial Christmas Island detention center.
Well, Brexit Plus - lack of freedom of movement to the EU will help save Europeans from coronavirus. And thinning out the population here means less competition whilst trapping foxes and scavenging for food in bins/derelict supermarkets.
Ya. I have my flight back to China this week. Tough decision about whether to cancel it or not. Employers have no clear answers as to when school will start again. It’s not about the health concern, but the inconvenience since everything is shut down. People stay in their homes except for work and groceries.
I do think the Chinese are holding back information on just how things are going in China. In Hong Kong the Chinese were going to house several hundred infected people from the Wuhan area in a newly built residential building. When the people of Hong Kong found out about that they burned the fucking building down. If we are to believe the Chinese why is there a need to ship people to other areas? Seems to me that is a sign that they are at their limits in the areas already quarantined and need more bed space for patients. China says 12,000 cases but I think it's far higher than that given what the Chinese are doing and what other countries are doing. Europe no longer flies to China. America is stopping flights. Russia has shut it's border with China. Also everyone seems hell bent on quarantining everyone coming from China or anyone that might even look like they have it. https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2020-01-29/coronavirus-china-science-mysteries?_amp=true
