Li Wenliang, a doctor in China who was allegedly detained for warning others about the coronavirus before he himself was sickened by the illness, has died. His death was confirmed during a World Health Organization (WHO) press briefing on Thursday.

The thing that doesn’t pass the smell test is that there’s no reason why Tencent should have the real numbers. It’s a tech company, largely gaming. It’s far more likely that the screenshot above is the result of editing the HTML of the page, than that someone — three times, apparently — had and posted the real numbers. Like, imagine if Facebook posted numbers that differed from the CDC’s numbers by an order of magnitude. Why would Facebook know? It’s not a perfect analogy, but you get the idea.

How can we tell which doctors matter when their faces are covered? Any one of them could be the pretty one. Which one is Dr. House? Someone needs to draw a house on one of the doctors so I know which one is going to save us all. I know who can help.

While in another video, said to have also been filmed in China, a woman is seen being detained by several police officers and struggling against them.

The clip was shared on Twitter claiming to show the woman being 'arrested and put in isolation for not wearing a mask against coronavirus.'

To be honest I don't actually see that they are downplaying it, not any more at least.

This is proving to be a major, major concern and the population density in their cities is really not helping matters.

I'd rather people didn't use this as political capital (not saying you have, btw) because in many (though not all, by any stretch) regards their response has been admirable and far beyond anything we could match and "wartime conditions" is probably not an excessive assessment.

I'd rather we weren't seeing people being forcibly isolated, but what other options do they have? More to the point what would we do differently?

Yeah, what seems to have happened is that he died but the Chinese authorities retracted the story for a few hours for some reason, then admitted to it again.

Well there's your problem! And these kind of outbreaks will continue because of the "wet markets" that are part of the Chinese culture.
