It's old news and much ado about nothing. That variant (and there are lots like this) failed to spread.

I thought we got rid of orange cheeto and elected a president that would do what is necessary to protect people from surges and new variants, and not push lies on us for political purposes?

Instead we have traitor Joe's people lying to us and saying in person school is so needed that we have to forcefully infect teachers, staff, students, and their families so that republican anti-science assholes do not have snowflake breakdowns.

Every day Biden becomes more and more Trump. His people become more and more republican and anti-science. There is no psychological damage done to children by at home learning. That is a faux news tucker carlson lie. Now we have it being spewed at us by Jen "Huckabee Wacky" Psaki?

Sorry, but it ends up bugging me. My sister was forced back to work where she has to deal wioth school kids and their plague rat parents every day, and now she has the COVID. My nephew has had multiple scares and has gotten it for the second time after being vaxed twice because of plague rats at school. My parents probably have it because they had to use their cruise vauchers or lose them, and the duh says cruises and planes are safe from COVID so time ends up ticking on those things.

Because we have to serve our corporate Trumpian overlords, Traitor Joe will force us all into the plague because he is a sniveling worm.

It's not great, but there's at least some evidence (that was very much not present before last year, and that I didn't know about until today) that remote learning has more deleterious effects on children's education than COVID, particularly the vaxed ones (and decades of research that shows kids who fall behind take ages to catch up). That said, this is dumb. They should just straight up close the schools for the duration of the omicron wave, and add the missed days back at the end of the school year when it's safer, if you believe that this is going to be the one where everyone gets it.

I will admit the jump into remote learning without a plan, and without training educators on how to use it properly is not ideal. However, the idea remote learning is dangerous is dangerous in itself.

We have to learn to do it, and it is not because of COVID. It is because it is an equalizer in terms of education. If done properly we no longer have to limit a poor, and normally non-white, student to the teachers in their district. If we had multiple choices in the instructor that corresponds to students, and then classroom assistants that could aid kids in person in smaller class sizes, and more in person attention, we could create a better education system. We really say distance learning is the best way to get general college courses when we pay for them, but it damages high school students to be able to have multiple instructors to teach things according to their style of learning?

Holding onto the old bullshit model is only going to benefit the elite who Biden wants to have access to the best instructors and education. It is not just Biden, but both the right and left elitist, racist, and religious power that uses education as the beginning of harming minority students and holding them back.

This goes beyond COVID to the blatant racism that Biden has eschewed his entire career. Do not bus those kids to better schools because then they will get a better education. Keep them in inferior ghetto schools because it is better for them to learn with their peers. He does not want kids remote learning because forcing them into their classist, racist schools keeps them down. If parents and students started to learn to use remote learning and accessed better instruction they would better educate themselves. Instead we call it dangerous and are trying to make it a stigma because is you are not limited to your local instructor, and we give all these students the access to the world of knowledge, then the rich white elite kids are not going to have the best education anymore.

The more I see of Traitor joe the more I say fuck joe biden. righties give the lets go biden dogwhistle so I will just say fuck that racist shitbag.

This idea that remote learning damages students is being snuck into the cultural consciousness as some sort of fact when really it was surprise implemented and not done properly. This is a purely racist and elitist idea that both the right and left are pushing because we have always had a racist and class based education system.

Empirically, this is an incomplete story at best. First, the damage appears to be largely among younger kids, with the worst studied effects in 3rd-5th grade, not high school. Anecdotally, I know a couple of ~2nd grade teachers, and they both say it’s even worse in 2nd grade. We’re talking like 30% loss of progress in reading ability per year. Second, your point is valid in terms of inter-school equality, but you totally ignore intra-school equality that schools provide. Child malnutrition went up during the remote learning period due to loss of school lunches, as did child poverty due to a parent having to drop out of the workforce. Not all parents have reliable internet access with decent upload. Kids use schools as a shelter from domestic violence (even when not perpetrated against them) and alcoholism and drug addiction. Handing out Chromebooks is easy; creating an environment in every home where a child can log on and learn effectively is much harder if not intractable. And, again anecdotally (n=2), but I don’t see why it wouldn’t generalize, the poor school districts get hit harder by this induced intra-school inequality than the rich ones. The poor-school teacher I know talked about kids in her class who would have been held back a grade for lack of progress under other circumstances.

Okay Federal Tererun, why don’t you go over there and play with the other conspiracy kids.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
What colors do the unicorns poop in your world? This is not an option on the table right now, if it even ever can be for younger students. And it’s simply not possible for everyone to learn from the best, because being the best involves interacting with the children, and there aren’t enough hours in the day for the best to interact with everyone who needs their attention. Sure, the potential for large, even radical improvement is there, but “Biden won’t single-handedly radically reform all American lower education correctly in time for Omicron” is a complaint only of the delusional. There is no “MIRACLE” button Joe Biden is failing to push because he’s an evil man.

It’s an empirically supported notion. Your fantasy world has little to do with with the options before us. We’ve discovered several ways that remote learning doesn’t work, particularly for younger students. We have not discovered the ways it does, for the young. Intentional experiments are the better way to figure out how to do remote learning, than a panicked response to an incoming pandemic wave in any case.

Missed this earlier. Vasodilator, right? Yeah, I can totally see that being useful when you've got a virus-induced clotting disorder, particularly if the active infection has been cleared and your body is trying to clean up the wreckage. Very cool, good thing to remember just in case.

This is going beyond the scope of the emergency remote learning we did because of COVID so I moved in over here for more discussion.

    http://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/the-evolution-of-education.122247/

The design adopted by schools in the emergency is IMO a fail. However, the distribution of learning over the medium of the internet is the future and is already benefitting minorities. I would be glad to discuss that over there in much more detail.

So you are saying there has not been an effort to minimalize kids based on race, nationality, and class in the US education system? Yes, that is a conspiracy, but it pretty much exists, and was passed down to us by other institutions who have used education as a way of limiting poor and others within society. That is not a conspiracy theory, that is a conspiracy fact. If you do not know this has been a problem, and is evident in societal systems worldwide you need to do some remedial education.

Oh, and yes conspiracies exist. That does not mean JFK created COVID and is going to bring his bigfoot powers to make donald trump president again. However, there are real systematic racist and classist conspiracies. You lose points for your attempt at using a logical fallacy ad hom attack.
If you want to argue Biden's history of elitism and racism within education, I might be willing to do it again. Biden was against bussing back in the day. This is public record. Biden also is for the commercial education system which currently is a pay for certification scheme that benefits the elites the most. Biden is clearly caught up in the Ivy league academic power structure. He is corporate elitist, and that relies on academic foundations. Those foundations are monetized and valued based on a scarcity or experience. If that experience was broadcast outside of the classroom through lessons anyone with an internet connection can get, that lowers the monetary value of those lessons while enlightening much more of the population with the knowledge only given to the elite. That is a direct threat to the bipartisan power structure.

The unicorns in my world do not poop.
Actually, this does go back to the other thread. However I will say here I have seen it employed in my cosmotology studies. We got lessons from the elite best of the best on how to do their styling. We could watch it over and over again while practicing locally with teachers certified in their courses and methodology. It is being done as we speak and it is considered the best way to learn practical and academic skills by the elite. Please refer to the other thread where I will discuss this more. I will leave it here as the option is there, it is even refined and working well.

It is working. It is being done now. It is dangerous to the idea that elite schools are the only way to make elite products.

Mr. Trump-lite himself Ron DeSantis has been MIA for a while and now a video has surfaced of him having problems speaking during a recent appearance. There's speculation that he may have contracted Covid. Of course, his camp is denying everything.

Tennis player Novak Djokovic is a piece of shit

Long story short: he's not vaccinated (he won't disclose his status, only that he has an "exemption") and is fighting the Australian authorities, who are rightly telling him to get the fuck out of the country.

Fuck Djokovic. I hope he dies from being gang-raped by COVID-infected wallabies.

Any local commentary/insight from our resident Aussie? @Bailey?

Funny thing... I went almost two years without personally knowing someone who had COVID (other than myself, who had an interesting bout at the beginning of the pandemic).

But quite a few of my friends and work colleagues caught COVID over the holidays. All of them were double-vaxxed (or even boosted). They said it knocked them on their ass for several days -- much worse than a flu -- but none of them required hospitalization and are doing fine now.

So yeah, I'd say even anecdotally that the vaccines are doing their job and it's not shocking that the anti-vax and anti-mask assholes are dropping like flies.

    Get vaxxed.

Novak can get fucked, but at the same time the Federal Government has only acted on this to try and cause a distraction from a number of their current fuckups.

High school, sure. Elementary school, definitely not.

Structural problems promoted out in the open are not a conspiracy. That Biden lacks imagination, power, and time to single-handedly fix these issues does not make him party to a conspiracy.

No, I want to poke fun at the fact that you're arguing for policies we now know to damage elementary school kids' reading abilities (among others) while using words incorrectly yourself (and to do so by referencing "The Princess Bride"). "Eschew"means "deliberately avoid", not "employ" or "use". "Conspiracy" denotes a *secret* plan.

Did you like Athena pop fully formed from your father's head? Because most people are born as babies and go through 9+ years of schooling before reaching high school, and you're totally ignoring them.

This is half-right at best, probably 4/13ths (or less). We have both hard data and anecdotes from teachers telling us you're wrong for younger students; that they can't learn as well remotely; and that this effect is worse for poor students. Answer the point, don't go whining about evil Joe Biden.
