I cannot picture Westminster taking its boot off the neck of Scotland. I can imagine some quasi independence that is allowed by Westminster, but it would be a surprising thing indeed to see a Republic of Scotland with its own constitution, money, military, border enforcement, etc.
A few points to make: article written with an agenda, no mention of the fact that Salmond could have forced through this referendum for quite some time now, but is happilly playing politics to try and wait it out and see how much the UK gov fucks up. Lets not forget the SNP had a manifesto commitment to holding a referendum in 2010! The only reason for the wait is that Scotland would not vote for independence right now. 2- EP - you are a moron and know fuckall! 3- Salmond is a slimy cunt, and only interested in the glory, wanted to remain a UK MP even when we got devolution in 1997 as he thought that was where the action was. Only became an MSP, when the SNP won the majority in the Scottish elections.
Where do you stand - do you want an independent Scotland, or would you prefer to remain as part of the UK?
What I'd like is for the UK to be a place that Scotland would want to be a part of. With the tories in power and Westminster still only giving a shit about 'London and the home counties', its not surprising calls for independence are growing
Redundant at this stage, but you're a retard. Anyway, permanent Tory governance for England if this happens...
I love it when the Americans get excited about something they haven't bothered to even read up on. Scottish indepedence? Yeah, great. We're independant now.....oh, but, by they way, English and Welsh tax payers, we still want to use your civil servants and military.
If this goes through, I predict it is only a matter of time before the Scotts start persecuting anyone not named Scott.
Turnabout's fair play and all that. Anyway, while Scotland is not a colony after living in the Caribbean for a couple of years, I will say that independence is something to approach carefully, although I will refrain from lecturing anyone on such matters.
Part of the UK. Devolution has been a much better success than I thought it would be, the balance is about right at the moment IMO.
How many Scottish MPs do the Tories stand to lose and how many do Labour stand to lose? Removing these MPs from the equation at Westminster, anything but the sort of meltdown experienced when running against Labour under Blair would leave the Tories with control of the Commons.
Pretty much. Alex Salmond will make sure his grand plan for independance still secures handouts from my taxes, you can bet on that.
Nonsense. Three terms of New Labour should tell you that a Tory government is by no means assured should Scotland leave the union. But, don't let that get in the way of your limited thinking.
