this was slightly brought up in the White Room, but there's a side tangent that a friend of mine had read about previously. if science were to advance to the point of AI and human robots, some company would inevitably take that to the sex realm (as we tend to do) and make AI sex dolls. would it be legal to make toys that are under-aged? there are obviously laws in place that prevent this sort of thing with humans, but if a person were to order a robot that appeared to be 13yr old, they aren't technically doing anything wrong because it's not a human. just for clarification i do not believe that this would be right morally or legally. the ability to have that sort of sex doll available would, in my opinion, increase the likelyhood that that person would commit the act to a human. thoughts?
I would think so. The way I understand it, it's illegal to create porn images that appear to be children.
If I'm not mistaken, that was struck down by the courts. I seem to remember hearing something about that.
I thought that it was illegal to make photographs, but illustrations were able to squeak through some loophole.
Actually I think they are at least supposed to imply that the characters that appear naked in any cartoon are supposedly older than 18. I've seen communities that had rules against posting such images as japanese hentai involving characters assumed to be younger than 18, therefore there must be some sort of legal connotation. I would think that such a thing would extend to kiddy sex toys too, it being somewhere in between doing the real thing and looking at images of underage persons- which are both very illegal.
Interesting moral conundrum. Honestly, I'm not sure how that one ought to be tackled. On the one hand, it wouldn't actually be a kid. On the other, it promotes kiddie fiddling, at least in principle. I think I'd be inclined to go against allowing it on that basis, but it is a can of worms, no doubt about it.
Legal or not, it would sure take a lot of guts to promote and sell a sex doll of a child. Those buying it would be potential pedofiles.

Plastic is plastic. Everyone has the right to their sick little fantasies, and I do not want to live in a world where un-approved thoughts are punishable. Go after people when and if they try to act on those fantasies with living partners. Your desire to keep your children safe absolutely does not justify punishing people preemptively.
Yet the people who use adult sex dolls don't seem to be increasing their likelihood of having sex with real adults. Anyway, while the idea is disgusting everybody should be free to have their sexual plastic molded into any shape they desire. A better solution would be to enlist midgets in Garanimals to join the fight against pedophilia. It'd be a win/win situation for all involved, plus midgets are much more biodegradable than plastic. Fuck a midget and save the world!
I don't think there would be a way people could stop it. They could just make a doll that looks like a 12 year old kid, but call it "18 year old ________." I don't like preventative laws either. Take away guns because people rob banks, take away knives cause people stab each other, take away books because it gives people bad thoughts.
I have to say, I would be highly suspicious of anyone who owned one and would never, ever leave a child alone with them. But there are plenty of people who have disturbing fantasies which turn them on who would never, ever act on them. I'd rather someone fuck a blow-up doll of a kid, than a real child. However, the idea that a true AI is just a piece of plastic and a toy...that is the more contraversial point, IMO.
Will the true AI whine and scream "No!" when the owner wants to fuck it? Also will it be able to simulate tears and bruising? If the answer to any of that is yes and people still buy and use them then I'd have to say that it would be wrong. Perhaps it is a different topic, but could you rape a machine? At which point would something that has cognitive thought and problem solving be allowed the same right to deny consent that humans have?
The US Supreme Court has ruled that computer generated child porn is perfectly legal and that right may not be infringed on. This had led many people to claim their pics are not real requiring a further burden for prosecutors. Regardless, a sex doll, even with AI that looked to be 7 or 13 would be perfectly legal under current US statutes.
