He's already got more than a decade on Jeffrey Hunter when he played the role. And he'd have to lose a lot of weight. I think it's all smoke and mirrors...
Can't believe phantom didn't do this... *Ray Liotta Pike in blue hawiian shirt* Pike- Dicks!! You're all dicks!! *Hurls fusilade of grenades into crowd of pedestrians* *Drags a pilot out of his shuttle, and "commandeers", it* Pike- I need this!! *Phaser vaporises the guy* *Flies the shuttle at ground level, and runs over a crapload of people on the sidewalk* *A Blondie song plays*
Liotta would kick ass. And no, I totally don't care about 40 year old TOS continuity that wasn't even conclusive within that series. There have been plenty fine reboots lately - Batman, Superman, James Bond, BSG - to just do it, and do it good. Trek certainly has another 40 years in it.
Imagine this: Ray Liotta as Christopher Pike, in a pinstriped suit, on the planet where the Federation is out for 'A Piece of the Action.' Spock: "Captain, you look like a gangster!"
Pike: You know Spock, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys. Spock: (raising eyebrow) Fascinating.
That would make the Liotta thing more realistic. When Kirk took command, Pike was obviously older than he was in "The Menagerie".
