Nah. I'm good. Thanks, though. I said exactly what I meant, and I meant what I said. If you wanna grab that bull by the horns, go for it.
You said "there are more guns and less murder." From that we can assume that you believe even more guns will mean even less murder. Gotcha. But I can understand why you don't want to think that through.
I don’t believe that at all and I doubt that StP does either. Pretty binary thinking coming from you.
There's nothing to explain. You made something up out of thin air, and I refuse to play your stupid games. I am not gonna baby you. You can play in your sandbox by yourself.
See, here's the fundamental difference between gunlubbers and the rest of us. If you truly believe what you claim, you'd be able to defend it. But because it's an entirely emotional "Mah daddy had guns, so I got guns" reaction, you have no rational argument. You reveal this every time you enter this argument. That's okay, really. It was the same argument made about slavery, the battle for women's suffrage, and a host of other things that have fallen by the wayside. You're not doing your side any favors. But do, please, continue to work for the rest of us!
Times have changed. So have demographics. The face of the drug scene has changed since the 80s. Career criminals aren't crazy. It's the law abiding gun owners who flip.
yet the majority of gun murders are committed with HANDGUNS! You know, those murders that don't make the international news, just local news at best. I forget that mass murder is the only thing people really give a shit about - something they can hang their "I REALLY REALLY CARE" hats on. Regardless there are other guns made besides.....oh man I'm getting goose-bumps just thinking about them...ASSAULT WEAPONS. I think that's what the gun control people call anything military looking with low recoil and capable of firing large capacity magazines. Well the guns most frequently used in armed robbery, carjacking, homicide and whatnot are HANDGUNS! Yes, small guns of large caliber that are easily concealed & transported and (more importantly) much less expensive than ASSAULT WEAPONS! Most states (maybe all I don't know) require the purchaser to be 21 or older, probably in an effort to limit impulsive young people from committing violent gun crimes. Often "waiting periods" are applied to these handguns for similar reasons I suppose. But by all means, don't research the total numbers of gun murders with young victims, just grab that low hanging fruit of school shootings committed with ASSAULT WEAPONS. You'll feel better and that's what really counts.
I would actually say due to their nature handguns are far more of a threat over all. A handgun is often carried or close by. That means they are there when rage hits. They are cheaper and probably fit more gun fantasies than an assault rifle given media portrayal of the pistol shooting cops and cowboys. You are correct, the largest effect on gun deaths would come from confronting the most common type of gun used. That is why I see the focus on assault rifles to be an effective distraction from the real issues. It is like worrying about bump stocks and pretending you did something by banning them despite there not really being fatalities by them until the recent Nevada shooter. That was horrifying, but it won't even be a percent of the gun deaths this year.
Holy shit I agree with Tererun - actually not that rare. I may not agree with everything she says but she does know what the fuck she's talking about most of the time and can engage in interesting arguments. And yes trying to ban "bump stocks" are the pointless feel-good gun control measure of the month, hands down.
Ban them all? Good point steve, let's start with disarming all law enforcement and security forces to include the agents protecting Obama, Clinton, Bush, Trump, etc. Definitely take the guns away from security guarding the homes & property of rich celebrities!
Except that you're demanding that I defend something that I DIDN'T claim. And now you're having a conversation with... yourself? An imaginary person? It's like you're standing in the corner shrieking at the wall.
And the really pathetic thing is that out of that group of friends, nearly all of them have only bought AR15s in the last 2-3 years. The other rational guy (and I) have had them for 25 years or more, so they're not a big deal to us. Plus, we're the only veterans in the bunch.
AR15s are stupid-cheap right now, which probably explains their...popularity...with these types of criminals. The last one I bought (from Palmetto State Armory) was less than $500, including the transfer fee for the lower at a local dealer. None of the pistols I own were that inexpensive. You could buy two AR15s for what a good Garand would cost you.
The S&W and bought a few months before that was probably less than $600, which was still a really good deal, but when a friend turned me on to PSA I couldn't resist getting another one.
I paid a thousand for an A2, but that was 21 years ago during the AWB (it has a flash hider, but no bayonet lug). None of the others have come close to that amount or $800.
Yeah...no. You can spend that much if you want, but you can get a very good one for far less than that.
