As is your knowledge of the American constitution. The Supreme Court has held that the 2nd Amendment though it specifically mentioned the "militia" (and in my opinion was considered to be the primary reason for the 2nd Amendment) does in fact protect an INDIVIDUAL right to ownership of a firearm. Don't like it? Change the U.S. constitution.
And it was caused by Oxycontin, and its bad dosing instructions. And the bad dosing instructions were caused by a dipshit ad campaign. And the dipshit ad campaign being allowed to exist was caused by Republicans. Who take big fat donations from big pharma. Like Perdue Pharma. The makers of Oxycontin. Good one, Tuttle. Good topic to pick. You just face-planted into a cow plop. *Sarcastic clapping* Bravo! Bra-fucking-vo!!
Sadly, my knowledge of the American constitution very likely outweighs yours. And I'm not American. Again, thanks for proving the thrust of my points in this thread. QED.
Well, in Canada, you can likely keep your shotgun. The pistols too, if you've got the right license. Now, if you want to go with Anduril's not so subtlely racist attempt at implying criminal possession, well... You can get up to five years for the restricted weapon violation if you aren't licensed to have it. Likewise, if you're caught for improper storage, unlicensed public carry, or generally being careless with one, there's a chance of jail time. Now if you use one while committing a felony, then you're looking at up to an extra 14 years that must be served consecutively to any other sentence. In short, we've made it really inadvisable for criminals here to even have, let alone use guns.
Still doesn't stop criminals from using them, but the fact remains that our overall homicide and crime rates in general are substantially lower than our neighbours to the south.
It's there because the Founders were "afraid of the English". They've convinced you it also means "afraid of the government", but as has been pointed out at length, the idea that civilians could take on an oppressive US government without significant backing by the police or military is goddamn laughable in this day and age. This leaves: Hunting - can be regulated and only needs single/limited shot rifles. Home Defence - the idea of a three-shot limit is pretty good here, or why not limit users to gel rounds or similar non-lethal ammo designed to deter/disable? Target shooting is fun! - the range lends you the guns. Or again, you can bring your 3-shotter. Making your dick feel larger - how much is NRA membership versus a bottle of Viagra? Or just a cockring, ffs.
I know. But jealously will get you nowhere. Also, I'm pretty sure we're building a wall on our southern border. Just like you. Y'know, to keep the riffraff out.
61 murders in toronto last year. 39 involving a gun. Down from the year before, but still the second highest count over the last decade. The % of firearms involved seems relatively constant.
I wonder if it's more a question of more visibility. Local stories used to remain local. Now they're global. Wish I could rep this more than once - thank you! In this particular case, the kid's behavior was noted to be extreme, but there seems to have been a lot of buck-passing. "Yes, well, we told him not to come back to school with a backpack...yes, some of his classmates have reported threats and crazy talk on his FB page, but, yanno..." Nobody wanted the responsibility/burden of saying "I think we need to take this to a higher level." And, certainly, a streamlined process as you describe in your second paragraph would help tremendously. But then you get flak from everybody from parents groups to states-rights activists to the NRA, so...yeah, it's a mess.
Two words: gene therapy. It's being tried and, if it works, and if Big Pharma can figure out a way to patent at least those specific genes, voila.
My dick is already quite large enough. And I've never been an NRA member so you're talking to the wrong person. The 2nd Amendment was put in because the founding fathers were too cheap (and too scared) to fund a regular army. But it hardly matters WHY the 2nd Amendment was put in to the Bill of Rights. The fact is that it is in fact there.
Y'know what? Imma be generous and say 6-shot max, in case anyone goes with the "you might miss!" or "you need to double-tap to be sure!" arguments. Beyond that, if anyone says "well, what if there are more than three intruders?"... perhaps our experienced vets here could chip in on the odds of someone successfully taking down three armed attackers in an enclosed environment before they can successfully counterattack? i.e. if it gets to that point, you're fucked anyway pal.
"Because it's there" is used to explain why men climb mountains. It's never stopped the American people amending the shit out of the Constitution, or outright ignoring it. And here you've just claimed it no longer has a purpose - since the current US government will fund the regular army at the expense of pretty much everything fucking else including education. If it's useless, get rid of it. Your foot understood this. It's a shame it couldn't have been saved over the rest of you.
I assume they are if their personal body count is high enough. Alternatively, serial killer is defined strictly as following a certain pattern against innocent targets and gang warfare falls outside that? How do the police define vigilante killings (if the vigilante whacks more than a handful of bad guys)?
This, certainly to some degree. I had a conversation with someone earlier this week about it. Used to be that some stories were regional at most but thanks first to satellite news coverage and now the internet, they go global instantly. 31 years ago I remember thinking, "Who the fuck cares that some little girl fell down a well in Midland, Texas? " and it's only gotten worse since then.
Yeah a serial killer tends to commit a crime almost the same way each time. Hence the serial part of serial killer. A gang member who kills a lot of people is more of a mass murderer.
Yeah, somehow we enjoy the better overall quality of life and sending our kids to school without being afraid they'll be gunned down
Good question. I'd say lack of discipline might have something to do with it. It's getting to where if a parent even yells at their kid, it's considered child abuse and someone will call the cops on them. So maybe they're used to getting their own way and when they finally don't they lash out? Seems to me there's a few people just in this thread.
In his mind. The poor fuck clearly has issues. Young, angry college-age male. Probably sexually abused by his priest and turned down even by the ugly girls for the prom. From where I sit, he's a classic example of someone who shouldn't even be allowed near a firearm.
Was obsessed with antifa. Wore a MAGA hat during his killing spree. Recieved paramilitary training and a rifle from a White Civil Rights Group. Lone wolf.
I don't think we have enough evidence to rule out Cappy as the shooter. As you say, a lot lines up, including age.
