    I'm bored.

But hey, it would be a great new way to bring in new posters! Invite PSN users into your clubhouse, and they can check out wordforge.net from their ps3 after all.

Honestly, I can't find that much info on clubhouses. I read it was a monthly charge but I have no idea how much. I've also not noticed just how you go about setting it up.

Anyhoo... I know the answer is no. But I can't find any good thread to read.

So your lack of creating entertainment value for me has brought you this thread Wordforge! You reap what you sow!

You need to explain this better. If it's a Playstation Network clubhouse, how and why would Wordforge provide it? Or are you suggesting a Playstation forum here on the board?

    As for why?

Why do all those other companies through their stuff into "Home". Advertising to the masses.

This is one of those posts I think most mods will dismiss as an uncreative troll because it was created by Paralaxx. The fact that Lanzman has posted a reply is pleasantly surprising.

Anyways, to explain a Playstation clubhouse, you sort of need to know what's on the Playstation Network.

Basically, on the Playstation Network, there is this little game/simulation called @Home you can install. It's pretty much a Second Life clone, where you can create a character, and wander around these areas with other people connected to the @Home game. There is a movie theater, for movie trailers, a virtual mall, and a dance area.

In the @Home game, they give you an apartment where you can furnish your home with various items you can either get for free, or buy from a virtual department store. You can also buy clothes for your character at the virtual clothing store.

What Para is talking about is a new feature they added last year[?], which is the clubhouse. You can rent a clubhouse from the Playstation Network, and invite people over to party and socialize at your clubhouse (as opposed to sitting on the virtual park benches or virtual bowling alley).

I've been to one of these virtual clubhouses before, and it's pretty spiffy. I can best describe it as a Malibu beach home, overlooking the ocean. There is a fireplace, a TV, and a deck that opens up to a fantastic (virtual) view.

Para is suggesting that Wordforge rent one of these virtual clubhouses. Then, whenever Para is on the @Home thing, he can invite some bitches over, and tell them about Wordforge, maybe getting them to join this dying board.

It's actually not a bad idea, and another way we can help grow the membership.

A lot of it would depend on the cost, how much extra :$: Wordforge is willing to shell out, and how many people are going to be on this Playstation @Home "game". If it's only Paralaxxis on it, then it might not be worth the money, but if we had a bunch of regulars on it frequently and inviting people into our virtual clubhouse, it might pay off. Also keep in mind that if Para were able to get some people to join the clubhouse, they could in turn invite others on the @Home network to come visit, and drive more users to the main WF site.

It's an idea at least worth considering, but it would again, depend on how much it would be.

Why not just get a place on a Second Life sim at a fraction of the cost. The beautiful thing about that is that you don't have to have a Playstation to do it.

Second Life is free to download and play. It's been around so long that there's so much free attire, accessories and gadgets for your avatar that it's hardly necessary to lay out any cash. And then, you put out a tip jar on the sim, and anyone who visits can donate to offset the cost of the land/building.

Why not both ? If SecondLife is free, do it.

I suggested "Home" because there are a number of ps3 users here who actually use it.

Truthfully I'll probably never download SecondLife or use it. But if others will then go for it.

Both of these ideas sound interesting. I myself don't own a PS/3 - I don't use my PS/2 enough to justify the upgrade. Someone else (Para?) would have to take lead there.

Second life . . . I thought I heard that was sort of dying out? Either way, I don't play that one either, since I already waste plenty of time online. Should we put this idea out in the Green Room and/or Press Start to get more feedback, you think?

This seems like something that would be a lot of work to set up, but ultimately not really accomplish much.

Quick show of hands, how many people would use it?

    (If > 32, we have a problem, if < 5, I'd guess it's not worth it)

well i'd say 5 on here, but that's not the entire point. it's also about getting people on psn to join and then come here. like advertising for wf.

Well in that case what would it accomplish, if all there is going to be is an empty room with no content who is going to see it and think "wow, I should check out that site!"

Could Wordforge somehow be displayed in this clubhouse? Like maybe a screenshot of the forum home page or something?

    From what I understand, yes.
You could buy a .99 cent picture frame and screencap WF in it.
And you can post WF links on the clubhouse BB.

But really unless Alphaman or Scorp take the lead on this then it probably won't work.

I am BARELY on the PSN @ Home thing. But if it really is only $5, I'll donate to the WF pimp pad.

If it were a Second Life thing, then yeah, I think it would take a lot of time to set up. My friend showed me a few clubs that were pretty elaborate. But the @ Home clubhouse is already set up. The only thing you would customize is maybe the furniture or the pictures on the wall.

And...you guys really should try and support the growth of this place, especially if it's only going to cost $5. Most of the mods and admins are pretty gung ho when it comes to improving the functioning of Wordforge (or maybe it's because we whine, complain, threaten, and/or bitch enough) but you guys seem to always say no when it comes to trying to get new membership in. At least it seems that way. (Google footprints, etc. not withstanding.)

It looks like only the person who owns the club can make payments to it (or buy furniture for it). So if you want to pay the five bucks, congrats you're the owner!

It's too bad. I really like PC games.

If a game I like is available on PC, I get that every time. Because the game eventually runs better over time as you upgrade or replace your computer.

And the games are super cheap. Yesterday, I bought Heroes of Might & Magic V and Titan Quest Special Edition for $10 each. I could've also bought Tomb Raider Anniversary too, but I figured two was enough to carry me over the Christmas break.

Also, how do you put a custom picture on the wall of your clubhouse?

The FAQ may not be current, PSN is always updating. The picture Frame will have to be researched.

    I can't do it, cause....

I'm out to after New Years!

See ya, when I get back. Keep the ball rolling on good ideas.

It's possible that it's dying out...but it's also possible it's in a transition. Linden Labs just made some sweeping changes to the TOS that took a huge bite out of the adult content in Second Life, which has diminished the concurrent users, and slowed the economy there. But that's not a bad thing. A lot of the cultural hubs are booming, and perhaps making it more difficult to get to the pr0n has been a boon to art and music in SL.

I haven't bother yet with educating myself on my PS3s intarwebs capabilities. Will it auto-connect to any local wireless network, or is that only WiFi?
