If it was a screen play contest, I would win hands-down. I have feel for the classic midget costume drama "fish out of water" action/buddy futuristic chick-flick musical documentary prequel. But I put a twist on the old, tired formula and give them a little extra "something". :)

Personally, I would prefer a sci-fi/fantasy theme, but if people who are entering want to do something other than that, I do not think the contest should limit them.

Also in terms of time constraints, can this be done before the Christmas season sets in, or should we wait till next year? It gets pretty busy for some people and they may not have time to write.

We should say it is a sci-fi/fantasy theme, but other stories are also acceptable.

Maybe have a 100 word limit.

    Just kidding.

Well I have just upgraded my videocard so could chuck my old one into the general pot of prizes. It's not great, a AGP 256mb 9800SE however for someone still running a much older card it would be an improvement. If the winner doesn't want it they just just say and I will hawk it on eBay and send them however much money I make from the sale.

I suggest putting it upto general member vote, with all entries being anonymous. Maybe restrict posting to members with over 200 posts or something just to stop unscrupulous outsiders registering purely to vote for someone. :)

I'll go thru the basement this weekend and look what I could put up. We could also use a call for prizes in the RR. Meanwhile, I will type up a draft kick-off post and put it in A51 for mod discussion.

So, when is this gonna go down anyway?

No way in hell I could consider it if it's gonna run next to NaNoWriMo.

Damn, you guys are done already?

I think there is enough interest, and Cassandra is working on some things, as far as I know. I'm suppose to be doing something to promo it as well.

Do you guys remember how that first one worked? Did we just make a poll to vote on which story we thought was the best?

Yeah I think that was it, just a list of titles by anonymous authors.

And as always I won't be participating aside from voting. I can't write, just don't have the gene.

I'd say let's wait until the move to the new server and fresh software is complete. That why I was holding back - the move is just around the corner, and the new place will need breaking in IMHO!

What I thought about so far:

    - We need prizes. Not money, stuff. Would be nice to have a pool where the winner can choose 3 things, 2nd two and the 3rd one 1 good. There are already a few nice pledges in this thread (hold that ATI for me ;) ). I will go thru the basement too.

    - We'll need the technical provisions worked out. For example, mods should be able to participate but all trolling by accusations of poll rigging should be killed off before it rears its ugly head. That's easy tho but it needs done.

    - And so on. I'm working on it, but let's wait a little longer and move smoothly before we start it.

That card isn't going anywhere, but it is really actually quite shit, only gets about a 4300 in 3dmark03 (hence why I upgraded it!) Just thought it would be good for someone who doesn't have one at all. :)

Hmm, I really think it should be after Nanowrimo. So Dec 1st would be a good starting date.
