I can't find it on youtube, so this link will have to do. Apparently, a reporter on a local news show, after an item (2 lines) on Vanilla Ices arrest for domestic violence, felt it appropriate to get backing singers on stage and rap to "ice ice baby". I hope she was fired. What's even more shocking, is that none of the other anchors appear even the slightest bit thrown, or uncomfortable about it.
I don't see the problem and it was probably a recomendation for the battered person. Ice, ice, baby!!!
VI has made a joke of himself for years and frankly if he's gonna beat up his Mrs then he deserves to have the piss taken out of him.
Yeah, but I don't see it as the piss being taken out of him, I see it as "oops, a woman got battered by her husband - look! dancers!"
I thought it was funny. Anytime someone beats up their spouse they deserve to be ridiculed, at the very least. J.
From what I hear, Vanilla Ice is actually doing pretty well for himself these days. He went into real estate investing, and is independently wealthy. I guess as the saying goes, you can take the white boy out of the trailer park...
And you don't see it as a prevailing and worrying attitude to domestic violence in society? I don't care who battered his wife, I just care that the wife was battered. And vice versa.
Again, I'd have done it just to ridicule the hell out of him. Anyone who beats his wife is a coward and deserves heaps of scorn and ridicule. J.
I prefer the "just the facts" school of journalism. Leave the ridicule up to the professional comedians.
I don't think the sort of people who pay attention to "entertainment news" are thinking about serious issues like domestic violence. I think that they saw it as spoofing the ridiculous celebrity of VI and not a commentary on his alleged crime. If we were supposed to be thinking of it as a "serious issue" and not "check out what wacky fun the celebrities are up to now" then it would have been reported by the hard news people and not the entertainment info-babe.
But it mocks him, not the wife. Personally, if I were the wife I wouldn't be sitting there drafting a letter of complaint to the news station about how they made light of what he did to me, I'd be having a good old laugh at them making him look stupid.
I think it mocks the news presenters and the news programme far more than it mocks 'vanilla iceman' or whatever his stupid fucking name is. The programme and presenters look faaaar more stupid than Vanilla
Yes, because of course performing a little dance is far more embarassing than getting jailed for beating up your wife.
Beating up your wife is embarassing in itself, you dont require extra ridicule to make it into an embarassing situation. The dance just embarassed the reporter and the news programme, not vanilla
