To be fair the area that is now Iraq lost its place as one of the most advanced areas of the planet when the Mongols destroyed most of Baghdad and the area’s advanced irrigation system. The domination of Ottoman Turkey and Moghul India shifted the center of scientific and cultural dominance of the Muslim world West and East.
Lindsey Graham was quite willing to trash the Kurds when the thought he was talking to the Turks. The audio can be found at the link.
And the prison where the Kurds were holding a bunch of ISIS members got hit by Turkish forces and all the prisoners escaped. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-syria-prison-bombing-kurds-sdf-a9152536.html
And Turkey “accidentally” bombs US forces still in Syria, despite being given the location of US forces. https://www.newsweek.com/us-troops-...rld&utm_medium=Feed&utm_campaign=Partnerships
Chris Matthews and me both love refugee work ethic new some war reguees from bosnia at work really impressed with hours
Yeah, but they stood by and did nothing when the White House was burned down by the British in the War of 1812.
can't say nobody saw that coming! The minute the Turkish "buffer zone" operation started the warning came out that not being able to guard prisoners and fight at the same time was going to end up FUBAR.
We should probably start thinking about kicking Turkey out of NATO before Iran or Russia decide to do something extreme.
It's a tricky call. Turkey deserves to be expelled from NATO. But we've already been concerned about Russia gaining influence by selling weapon systems to Turkey. If we drive them into Putin's waiting arms, that lays the entire Mediterranean open to Russia, overturning 200 years of Western geostrategic policy.
I'm sure Tuttle's happy rep there is because Putin wants Turkey out of NATO too, but weakening the West's reputation as a morally superior alternative to Russia is worse than keeping a bad actor onside, and I also know which Putin would prefer in the long run - that's why he wanted Trump in office.
Yeah, but the balance of power in the M.E. is up for grabs now anyway because of Trump's idiocy. The Kurds are looking towards Assad, Iran's mobilizing on their own Turkish border in addition to looking at another Sunni uprising after just stamping one out, and even Israel is cutting their eyes at us funny. The entire middle eastern game board has been knocked over.
Two people wonder whether Turkey should still be in NATO. Somehow one is : ) but other is : (. One is a keyboard warrior in UK pretending that he's right because the media he picked to listen to told him to think that. The other, an ex-NY'er still trying to figure out WTF's going on because of the long tragic history of establishment bureaucrats being wrong about nearly everything. Your mind reading sucks. Btw, I have extended family in Cyprus, though I consider that unimportant. Are you even trying any more? PS: you really gotta shake that Putin delusion, it's worse than the Obama birthers on the tinfoil scale.
Did you read matt's pathetic attempt at mind reading? God, it's grade school level, guy's got no talent for it. <<Matt: I'm sure Tuttle's happy rep there is because Putin wants Turkey out of NATO >> Until today he wasn't even aware of what might be the single greatest factor clouding any opinion I might hold re Turkey: close ties to Cyprus; arguably second after the Armenians among those that most mistrust the Turks. And he apparently hasn't read Gary Kasparov's opinions on Putin that I shared here multiple times over the past decade. In short - matt's delusion is that any American chiefly views geopolitics through a Putin-colored lens. Fuck, is Russia's economy even bigger than Texas's any more?
