Obama "merely" had to fix a shattered economy and play nice with our allies. Biden, or whomever it might be, is not only going to have to fix the economy, deal with a pandemic, patch up hugely fractured international relations, but also oversee massive reforms in our government to prevent anyone else from doing what Trump has done.

Don't know if it was mentioned elsewhere, but the restraining order the ACLU won against the jackboots in Portland includes the judge's finding that the Federal "troops" do not have the authority to close local streets making their claim that they were arresting people who refused to obey orders to clear the streets bogus.

They'll just get Portland PD, a willing accomplice in all of this, to close the streets. That's an old trick.

Our main street through town is also a State Highway. Municipal Police can't close State Highways, US Highways, and Interstate Highways. That requires an Alabama State Trooper. So, before Parades we'd just call the Trooper Post for our area and whatever supervisor was on duty would just verbally okay the temporary closure.

Agreed. That's why the response to this whole thing must come from the Federal Legislature or the Federal Courts. We're not going to see State, County, and Municipal Law Enforcement facing off against Federal Law Enforcement in the streets. Portland PD has been a willing accomplice in all of this, going so far as to put tape over their name tags and join in on the "fun."

Either the Mayor really has no problem with it or Portland has experienced a loss of institutional control. If the latter, it is a travesty in and of itself. I'm not sure which is worse.
