I wouldn't mind seeing that as part of a prequel, but would rather see it focused on a human character (Mace Windu?) than a CGI/muppet thing.

So, if "Rogue One", uses the "Return Of The Jedi", rectangle and color, and this uses the ESB shape and color, then maybe Obi-Wan will use the (abandoned) "A New Hope", blue pyramid.

It's not a patch-em-up, it's a reboot.

Not too surprising. If the directors got fired so late in the shoot because the producers didn't like the way the movie was headed, it wouldn't be unexpected for many of the scenes to be reshot. Lord and Miller were--apparently--making a screwball comedy, so the tone of all the scenes they shot would've been all wrong, and so would've needed to be reshot even if the dialogue or action didn't change. Actors are going to perform the scenes differently to fit the tone.
