There is no news value in this story. It recycles and plays on concerns from months ago. The Star Wars brand is too valuable to risk with a substandard film; I'd think Disney would simply not release the film if it was not up to par. And, again, Ron Howard is a very capable, talented, and influential filmmaker; he wouldn't have taken on the project unless it was possible to deliver a good film. The "Ehrenreich can't act" bit has been repeated ad nauseum, and it is contradicted by available facts (check out his existing body of screenwork). The production had problems, yes. The original filmmakers--Lord and Miller--got it wrong enough that Lucasfilm fired them, yes. The film is way behind schedule, yes. But I think it's far from certain that the film is a big misfire. Let's at least see the trailer before we start worrying.
Also remember there was a lot of similar noise about Rogue One prior to its release because of reshoots, etc. And it turned out to be a pretty damn good addition to the SW universe.
Exactly. I think we have more insight into filmmaking than ever before, and it leads us to huge swings of worry whenever there's a hiccough in their production. I think we shouldn't worry about it until we get some indication of the actual product.
Apparently, there's going to be a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl. Buying the most expensive commercial slot on American television for a film's teaser doesn't sound like the actions of a studio that has given up on that film.
Confirmed. https://www.cbr.com/solo-star-wars-story-super-bowl-ad/ And it's going to be 45 seconds, and right up top, so you don't have to wait for half time, or guess when it's coming, AND we're still getting another one Monday on Good Morning America.
That was amazing! There was stuff and I think planes! Was that Star Wars too? Amazing. I cannot wait for this movie or show to premiere on my iPad. This will be the best space ship story experience ever. And oh my god! Was that a space train? And a black person? In space? Unreal.
The falcon, did you see it?!?!?!?!? Chewieeee! Landoooo! Tie fighters! And was there a Death Star too?!?!??!? I need to watch this 100 more times, I'm soooooo excited!
Went through the teaser frame by frame. The armored dude on the train with the electro-staff thingy is Moloch. Dude fighting him is Woody Harrelson. Han's landspeeder/car is in the teaser, and perfectly matches. Yep, the Legos sets are legit. So the box art is legit. So, we kinda know what the final poster is gonna look lke.
So, now that we've had a glimpse, who still feels overwhelmingly pessimistic about it? It could still suck, but the teaser looked pretty fantastic IMHO...Star Wars-ish but...more than that, too. That's what I want from these: a larger universe. My only (faint) concern: from what I saw, my mind pieces together a story that's very reminiscent of "The Train Job" from Firefly. Wouldn't that be ironic? If a series featuring a lead character who's very much a riff on Han Solo wound up being the inspiration for a Han Solo film?
We have another one tomorrow to chew on. Maybe we'll see him deliver a line, instead of hearing him, but not seeing him, then seeing him, and not hearing him.
Maybe just a tiny little Wedgie Star then, or are they saving that for the high school prequel series?
Looks pretty good. Doesn't grab me like a lot of the other recent SW films' trailers, but doesn't look bad.
This movie is still so very much unneeded. Han is an icon. He doesn't need more backstory than whatever he lets on in the movies. Whoever plays him, whatever the story - it will never live up to the legend. Also, the timing is awful. We just had an SW movie (and the best one there is so far). This is total overkill. I get that Disney will milk their new franchise for every last penny but come on, that's four movies in 2 years. Lucky stroke because they were all decent to very good and probably already earned them back their investment. Slow the fuck down. The money isn't going anywhere. Why not make those 'Story' movies (a really cool concept btw) into something for TV. High budget miniseries or something. I wonder how fast even SW fans will tire of visiting their local cineplex if they keep this up.
They want May back, because that's when Star Wars movies used to come out. JJ fucked things up by delaying TFA until December, and then that made them 2 billion, so it felt "lucky", but even with dollar signs on December, they want that May slot back.
