I'm alright, so is Mrs. Clyde, just seems like we're surrounded by bad news. Friends divorcing, family members dying, loved ones in financial ruin. Sure we've our troubles but crying about a broken garbage disposal, or bees making a palace in our chimney, or the rising cost of pet medication seems petty and small by comparison.

This thread's purpose is two-fold, first as a safe place to detail/unload sour times of your own. And secondly a place to share a bit of good news. A bit of good cheer.

Here's a bit of good cheer to start us off - My mother's mother is soon to turn 100, better still my grandmother is fully independent, aware, ambulatory, and is even licensed to drive. Though we encourage her to let us do the driving for her.

    :)

    Bad news:
    Grandma died of cancer.
    1. I am supposed to have my liver imaged to rule out liver cancer due to increased liver enzymes.
    2. Wife has had a lot of deaths in the family.
    3. I have chronic inflammation from my gout that will require a few months of meds to allow me to work out.
    4. I am months behind at work.
    5. I have to put up with some bad relatives at the funeral.

    Good news:
    1. I am months behind work in a crappy economy.
    2. I have a wonderful, supportive family.
    3. I am loving my new career, and still being supported by my old career
    4. My wife told me yesterday she loves me more than when we married, and I feel the same way.

Bad News - Years ago, I had a wonderful "FireCracker Chicken" dish from Panda Express, only to find out that it was a limited-time-offer which had expired by the time I visited again. :(

Good news - Panda Express appears to have added it to their menu again!

bad news: me and my little dog both have bum hips. :(

good news: my sister is in remission and she is actually able to walk up the stairs to my apartment now. this is huge, as it means that if it gets really bad for her financially, she would be physically able to stay with me.

also, i passed organic chem! :bananana:

Good news is my son made it through Combat Medic school and is working in a clinic in Korea (lucky shit!) and my daughter finally graduated High School!

No bad news really - I might lose my job in a couple of months, but I won't be fired because of my own fault, so I can collect unemployment and cash in my 401K which I don't need anyway (I've got military retirement already).

So, If I lose my job at the right time I can go deer hunting every day until I'm finally forced to find another job. :santa_ok:

Not a college guy - does "defended your thesis" mean you passed a final exam or certification? Regardless, great you made it as a doctor.
Let me be the first to say "what's up, Doc?" :santa_ok:

Well let me vent here, though it's kind of petty:

my daughter is hot/cold because she might have the flu, so she just turned on the fucking AIR CONDITIONING!

The good news is we live in Georgia and it's not very cold lately anyway, so it's not like it's a game changer. But still.....it's cold! I shall warm up by thinking about Alyssa Milano turning 40 but still being hot!

    Thanks! :santa_smiley:

Defending your thesis is the key part getting the PhD.. Basically you present your 4 or 5 years of research to a group of professors or professionals with PhDs in your field, and show them you have done enough original work to deserve the Doctoral of Philosophy. It's usually a formality rather than an actual test since you are expected to have a few published articles in peer-reviewed scientific or in my case engineering journals before you defend.

My group is 4 professors from Georgia Tech, 2 professionals from Airbus, and another from Thales.

Bad news: In light of Daedalus12 defending his (her?) thesis, the user name is now obsolete and must be changed.

Good news: The username shall be Dr. Daedalus :techman:

Bad news: Still flipping burgers (the other job didn't work out; the trainer was a maniac behind wheels and it's a wonder with the erratic driving, tailgating, peeling across intersections and hard stopping we didn't crash, so I said fuck it, don't want to risk my life for this and went back to the burger joint).

Good news: I have medical and dental again. Also, I've been building a new computer (I5 quad core 3.4 ghz, 16 gb RAM) and just got it up and running. Now just need a kick ass vid card and sound card.

    Bad News:

    - Grandma had another fall a couple of weeks ago, but last I heard she was out of the hospital and back home.
    - NHL is still busy self-destructing.
    - People are still capable of doing stupid.

    Good news:

    - The new job is going well and hasn't attempted to kill me yet!
    - KJ has a job interview shortly.
    - People are still capable of doing good.
    - The new place is nice, aside from the same fault that all finite spaces share, namely a lack of sufficient bookshelf space.

My doctor said I was too fat, so I said I wanted a second opinion.

He said "okay - you're also ugly!" :santa_angry:
