Chances are the meeting between Kim Jong and President Trump goes like this:

Kim Jong will agree to give up his nuclear weapons in exchange for an end to sanctions and U.S. guarantees not to attack.

But.

They will insist that their "denuclearization" be verified by Chinese and possibly Russian inspectors. And Kim knows he can get the Chinese and Russians to overlook a handful of nuclear warheads.

So basically it results in the sanctions on North Korea are lifted, the North Koreans pretend to give up their nuclear weapons and effectively have to end their nuclear testing program.

It is pretty interesting to note the differences between Obama and Trump.

While running for office Obama got slammed by the foreign policy establishment for saying he would meet with anyone. Once he got into office though, he listened to the experts and went back on his campaign rhetoric.

Trump joined in bashing Obama for being open to meeting with anyone, calling him weak for it. But then he gets into office and AGAINST the advice of the experts decides unilaterally to meet with Kim.

It's a good thing the adults were able to talk him down.

But, I digress. I wish I had posted earlier today when I was thinking about it. I assumed he'd retract, and I think he still will. But, I assumed this was simply something to give the pundits something to talk about today and over the weekend. He likes to throw stuff out there and see what people's reaction to it is. It does two things. It keeps him the center of attention literally every day, which is what he craves, and he probably things he's making everyone jump. But, what he's really doing is making the White House look even more incompetent than it ever has, like, ever. At least Nixon and Carter had some positives.

More importantly, they're a big reminder of our power to the People's Republic of China and Russia in the far east.

Nixon was a Machiavellian genius and Carter was... a kind soul (who got royally fucked by Reagan's treason).

This whole thing is a sham. Kim wants legitimacy and a photo-op for his people, plus it gives him the opportunity to play Trump and throw a big wedge between him and our allies. He's playing chess and Trump is eating checkers.
