I dislike the comparison also. It is a weak argument and it doesn't fit. Hitler had military support because he was part of a military faction in world war one. Trump does not have any military allies I can see, and he has never served. One might compare trump supporters to Nazis, but that is an overstatement of the power trumpets have. They are really just a loud and disgusting minority. I have a feeling the pollsters have done nothing to correct the problems that resulted in them being so off in 2012, or there is an actual conspiracy to keep the numbers close to keep people interested.
Hitler is just a go-to boogeyman for pretty much everybody. It's usually just a lazy insult, which is why it can be entertaining to see some people fumble about to try to back it up.
It can be that, but it's still useful to remember as a cautionary tail. I don't think Trump is Hitler Jr., but he does use some of the same techniques. It's valid to make a comparison regarding propaganda and racial division. Main point, do we really want Hitler style politics succeeding in this country?
Best not to get bogged down in the details of a point-by-point conparison. The parallels that can be drawn are in a rhetorical style that features bullheaded populist simplification of issues, demonization/dehumanization of minorities, and the promise to restore past greatness.
So it's blaming American Jews for the actions of the Israeli government under the rubric of “all you people think alike.” I see.
Course not !! Unless of course we demonize those with more money than average, or the cops, or whatever brand the left wants to demonize for votes. In *those* kinds of cases it's almost certainly a necessary evil that results in goodness, buttercups and daisies. [But when it's the Lou Dobbs brand of populism, like what The Donald latched onto, it's fuckin Hitler all over again.]
As far as military allies go, Trump has General Flynn, a man whose main talent appears to be looking so constipated on camera that he frightens the enemy with an imminent eruption from his backed-up anus:
Most American Jews I know are pretty opposed to the actions of the Israeli government. It's a tall tale told by the right, this claim that being anti-Tel Aviv means anti-Jew. Anybody who thinks Jews are a singular voting block, look up J-Street sometime.
“Posterity” will understand that I was asking for a clarification of which “flavor” of anti-Semitism you were referring to, that’s all. IOW, q.v. Post #71
I find any kind of political populism comparison of Trump and Hitler ridiculous in part because I find a comparison of the current US and 1930s Germany ridiculous.
But isn't that exactly the Trump rhetoric? A once great country, on it's knees, suffering an economic catastrophe, screwed in deals with the other great powers, a corrupt, moribund bureaucracy, and being poisoned by the cancer of non Aryan population who control the banks and the media. In terms of words and message, I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference between 1933 & 2017. And with loads of Trump supporters adopting Nazi slogans, images, parables, and memes while the leader has advocated violence and going against 240 years of civil government to maybe contest the election if he loses, I'm not seeing a huge difference in methods either.
Oh, wow, someone said something stupud on the internet? You don't say? If you keep up false comparisons (one person said X so everyone must believe X) then maybe Fox News will hire you. I think they need to require a basic logic class in high school especially one which covers logical fallacies. You have god damned Michael Moore screening about how wrong and stupid this meme is yet tge shills just can't gelp themselves.
As usual, you are wrong. Tell me, as a 'teacher' can you highlight for the class where that comparison differs?
For starters as I've pointed out before the current US isn't in as remotely bad shape politically, socially Or culturally as pre Nazi era Germany was.
And a few people getting roughed up at a Trump rally doesn't begin to compare to the brutal deadly violence that the Nazis used against their opponents.
