For those who are looking forward to Spore, the demo of the creature editor section of the game is now floating around. I immediately jumped in and created the universes most fabulous creature. [yt=Dance baby, dance]_q1jKki12YA[/yt]
http://mapsbytron.com/images/random-temp-stuff/Glamorous.png There's a link to the creature file for anyone else who gets the demo and wants to have a look ingame. The distribution method for creatures is really cool, all the information is stored in an image file, so to share your creatures all you have to do is take their image (stored in the creatures folder) and pass it onto your friends.
You know what sucks is that you have to pay for the creature creator, fucking EA. Really temped not to buy the game as it's EA.
The creature creator has had a LOT of work put into it, plus the demo that I am using at the moment is free. If you buy the creature creator off the EA store it actually takes the price off the price of Spore when it is released as well.
Guess i will have to take a look at there store, just messing with the creator and it is nice so i might have to toss a few pounds there way. still not a fan of EA.
EA, on their own, would have never, ever made this game. I think Will Wright guilted them into it due to the success of The Sims.
So I've acquired this from two different sources now, and I can't even get it to install. I run the setup file, but SCCTrialSetup.exe just runs in the background and never installs. Does it only run on Vista or something?
Bizarre, it's for XP/Vista (and Mac although the leaked demo is pc only) and I haven't heard of any issues. it actually seems to work quite well on a range of hardware. I assume you have tried rebooting and all the usual stuff?
Well, when I'd double click it, the hourglass would show up briefly, but nothing would happen. I'd check the task manager and it was definitely running, but nothing was popping up. I tried running it again, but this time I let the computer sit for about a minute and it started to install. I guess I was just too impatient, but it's weird that it takes that long for anything to pop up. Gonna go try it out now. Edit: welp, now I'm getting an error when I try and run the creature editor. "Could not create the Graphics Device. Direct X is unavailable. [1002]". Some quick Googling tells me I need to download the latest Direct X, which I thought I'd had. Edit2: welp, even after installing the latest Direct X stuff I'm still getting the same error message. After looking at the readme, it seems I need a 128 MB video card. I think mine is something like 64 MB, and it's about 5 years old. Better start looking into a new one.

Just had the Spore creature creator delivered, it's pretty neat so far. Had one snag, pre-ordered spore at the same time and i just received my code to give me £5 off spore and there is no way to add it to my existing order Oh heres my first real go at it.
Careful searching for spore creatures on YouTube... a good 1/3rd of them are huge penis-shaped things.
I still don't really understand the concept of paying for a program to be able to create characters for a game you don't even have yet (and have to pay more for). That said, it's quite great to see how customisable the characters are already. I made a weird three legged thing, but when it crouched down it accidentally looked like I have a phallic obsession. And then you have the people that do it deliberately. Essentially it's a pre-order bonus, isn't it?
Hopefully he's got the option to walk out on them. That's the only explanation I have for why Maxis is still together. By all rights, The Sims 3 should be written in the former Soviet Union by programmers chained to their desks.
I think that is, perhaps, an eerily accurate view of how EA treats their developers. Last I heard, it's a little better at Maxis, as they're probably the biggest moneymakers after their sports suite. Still, probably not the sort of place I'd enjoy working.
My profile and 1st race: http://www.spore.com/view/profile/Rincenl Feel free to add me to the games buddy-list...
Just got the disk will install in it a few mins after i put my new isp hub in. Well bah spore site is down for an upgrade and i can't login.
I thought it was to be released tomorrow in Europe? Also, what's with a game being launched in Europe first? I mean, we are used to being after Japan for a lot of console games, but behind the limeys? This offends my North American sensibilities!
