Yea, it just feels like the way they set up getting to space mode makes the other modes seem like a chore.

I like the other modes, and I don't want to feel like space mode is the point of the game and the other modes are just stepping stones I have to go through to get there.

Edit - Once you get to space mode, it could be any other space game anyway.

I dunno, the first four modes get steadily better. 2-4 I actually enjoyed, more than the reviewers did, but 1 is kinda boring. I like the game a lot :)

Liked the Cell and creature and space stages, hated the tribal and civ stages.

Setting up lots of T3 systems at the min and just leaving them to see what pops up, also trying to find the grox* homeworld so i can just wipe them out in one big go.

    * think i screwed it up by terraforming it before i had the mission, so i might have to do all 2000+ systems :(

I'm getting the game this weekend, if my parents don't forget to bring it.

Turns out you don't need your CD to play, and you can use the installation code on 3 computers. :D So I'm using my sister's CD.

I've seen my friends play through the first two stages, and I think I'm really gonna like the creature stage. My friend made the mistake of making enemies with everyone in the creature stage... he told me this morning that, in tribal stage, he got beat up by just about every species in the area. :P

So now I'm playing with the creature creator more, working on combinations of parts that'll give me a strong creature when I get the game this weekend. :D

I just got my aggressive carnivore race to the Civ stage. :techman: I'm eventually going to go the pacifist route.

If anyone wants to add me my handle in Spore is MisterPloppy. I'll add you guys next time I play. ;)

Pacifist was pretty easy - at least to Galaxy Stage. I did it my first run through and never had to worry about anything even though I didn't have any real idea what the heck I was doing half the time.

I'm running out of steam in the space stage, done the core thing and not found the 3rd rock yet after doing something like 8k jumps.

Not found the big bads homeworld so they are still been a pest.

I haven't done much in the Space stage, just met the first race and did one mission for them after founding a single colony. I'm kind of holding off on that until after I get a handle on Tribal and Civ stages.

Yeah, but only one of you can play online at a time I think. They made a misprint in the manual or something.

Besides, there are plenty of better viruses you could install besides EA's DRM.

You can play from multiple machines with the same key at the same time, my kids and I were doing it this weekend.

Were all three of you able to be online at the same time?

We ran two machines simultaneously - and were picking up each other's creations after a bit of lag.

The game doesn't stay online the whole time it just uploads/downloads when you do a saved game or using the spore ingame browser.

Have to remember that all the stuff people make are saved as a sort of JPG file, so it's half second download at the most.

Got to say, im much less impressed than i was hoping to be.
I got up to space and diddled about for a bit, but i wasnt impressed at all with the other levels and space only looks marginally better...

After playing up to the end of civilization, all I can say is:

    1. tribal was the hardest (and by that I mean, it was too easy)
    2. the game is fun
    3. it's not as amazing as they made it out to be
    4. I'll be bored with it in a couple of months.
    5. Despite not being the BEST GAME EVUR, it's incredibly addictive and you can play it for 6 hours straight without realizing it.

It's a good buy, but not worth all the hype, IMO.

Biggest problem with it is that the controls aren't very good.

Also the level of detail settings are way too aggressive. At a distance, stuff almost always looks like some sort of rock monster. I know they are trying to make it accessible to a lot of players, but the Level of Detail should be configurable. It's very irksome that you put a lot of time into creating cool creatures/ships/vehicles/buildings and then once you actually play the game, they get simplified and look crappier (even with all settings at highest).

From what I've read, you can only install three times before EA discontinues your code. That's total, not on one computer.

Hope your system stability is top notch.

You can uninstall it and reinstall it as many times as you like on your computer as long as you don't change the hardware (and maybe OS).

The three installs means on three different systems, was posted on the EA forums.

what happens is sometimes when you uninstall, it won't send the message back that you did, therefore taking away one install. That's the main problem.

I've let Civ stage just run after I completed that part. I'm gonna collect a lot of sporebucks so I can do stuff in the space stage without worrying too much about spice.

I'm thinking about torrenting Spore. But the system requirements worry me a bit. My computer isn't that great.

Man...I want this game. SO. BAD.

I remember watching an hour-long promo video for this game when it was still in the development stage. T_T

I had a look at this game - the first one in, like, a year that seemed interesting. Was expecting POPULOUS 4 with the evolution edge.

What it is... well, it's at least colorful. Otherwise I have never seen something that simplified. It's a children's game!

actually my kids (12 & 7) both enjoy playing, its kind of fun when they say stuff like "Daddy I'm eating one of your creatures!"

I was kinda pissed when I let my computer run it for an hour and then saw that it does not carry over.

Then I realized - the space part of the game is the only one that could remotely be considered hard. If we could go in with a million sporebucks each time... it would be too easy. :(

I haven't done much with Space yet.

Warhammer came out, and I'm only allowed to be addicted to one game at a time. :)

Yes, although it does get more complex in the space age, the rest is very very simple.
