I think somebody utters a profanity in that movie and there might be sex for fun not babies. Out of the question!

    just got back
    I was right.

    Nitpicks... a couple.

Overall story? Fuckin' awesome. For all the complaints, this time around, the crew are human(oids) and act like it.

My BIGGEST complaint is one I haven't seen anyone make yet: Kirk's sacrifice was absolutely pointless.

The ship was above Earth, and the crew had the option to abandon ship. In fact, the abandon ship order was given, and REFUSED by the crew!

They should have all ditched (alive) and let the Enterprise burn up in the atmosphere.

Even still, I don't care! Totally didn't even grab me until an hour or so after I left the cinema.

Well, I'm guessing it would make Kirk kind of dick if he bailed and left everyone bridge going :jayzus:

And it was the character development where Kirk placed others ahead of himself and realized that his actions could kill others, and that he needed to do what he could to save his crew.

Even still, could there have been a better way of doing that? FWIW, I don't think the sacrifice was a complete waste; he goes and puts his life on the line without knowing that he could be resurrected. The sacrifice may have been better received if it didn't direction pull from TWOK, IMO.

For the record, I do not think sex is supposed to be reserved for producing children.

Just that it is supposed to be only between married couples of the opposite sex.

Bullshit. The article you lifted for the OP in the sex thread said nothing about the marital status of the people who fucked like rabbits during and after the storm.

Perhaps you didn't read it, but the only couple referred to was two married people who said they happy with two children but were getting ready to welcome their third into the world.

But that aside, quit trying to derail the thread and stay on topic.

I didn't bring this stuff into this thread.

The point is that it didn't say anything about extra-marital sex, you brought that element in. And by the way, this:
is going to make me all the more interested in derailing threads that interest you.

    1) I doubt your effectiveness as right now you're trying to derail a thread that I didn't start.

    2) You are admitting to trolling.

Actually, I'm only suggesting that I might troll in the future. But more to the point, I don't believe in the concept of thread derailment. The discussion goes where it goes. If that bothers you, then so much the better.

What if it's on-topic? For instance, Kirk has plenty of pre-marital sex and yet Dayton is still a big fan of TOS.

    Actually rewatch the original episodes.

You can only infer that Kirk has premarital/extramarital sex with three different women in the course of three seasons.

    Odona in "Mark of Gideon"

The Scalosion queen in "Wink of An Eye".

    Marlena Moreau in "Mirror, Mirror"

He is married to Miramannee in "The Paradise Syndrome"

The exact extents of his physical relationships in the past in "Shore Leave", "Courtmartial", "Turnabout Intruder", "The Deadly Years" are not known.

Or some such thing... one of 1000 things that made me like this movie more than I expected to.

Yeah, Kirk is well-known for having very few sexual encounters. Not a ladies man at all.

    Edit: to :dayton:.

Kirk as the ladies man is largely unsupported by the actual original series episodes.

What you'll find in watching the OS is that Kirk repeatedly used charm on women to attempt to protect the Enterprise and his crew.

He had no problems using women. Not necessarily the mark of a man who genuinely loves and respects women.

He knocked Shahna unconscious in "The Gamesters Triskelion" in order to help facilitate the landing parties escape (note, Chekov simply binds and gags is 'instructor').

Likewise he deliberately tried to use physical charms in "Catspaw" and other episodes.

In Bread and Circuses, Kirk very clearly gets action from the slave girl hotties.

Correction. Four then in three years.

All four of them one time encounters under duress. Not something he sought out.

At least two. Remember the episode where they have to stop the asteroid from wiping out that planet of Native American lookalikes? His "wife" (given that Kirk had his mind blanked by that temple, any relationship he had before his mind was restored couldn't be considered consensual) got pregnant. And Kirk let her die, rather than violate the Prime Directive and beam her to the ship so McCoy could save her. How's that different than a back alley abortion, I ask you!

I haven't seen the movie yet but I would say the Enterprise isn't going to burn up.

The ship is a lot tougher then that. It's going to slam into the ground. And unless it got rid of it's anti-matter that's going to be one hell of an explosion.

And if it did get rid of the anti-matter you still have all the other chemicals and nuclear stuff on board to make one nasty mess and kill a lot of people.
