I'll be straight up: Anything with Leonard Nimoy wearing the Spock ears isn't wasted. He could be filmed, for two hours, just sitting in a room reading a magazine and, by god, I'll buy two tickets to see it.

How about Leonard Nimoy with the pointy ears wearing the Borat Mankini while performing the Harlem Shake to Justin Bieber?

I notice "Generations" isn't on the list. Good move. It never happened. :)

Not much worse than Spock sitting around the campfire singing Row Row Row Your Boat.

    The best: TWoK, TVH

    Pretty good: TUC

    Flawed but quite enjoyable: TSFS

09 and iD are probably around here somewhere

    Reasonably enjoyable: FC, GEN, TMP

INS might be as high as around here, if I'd ever seen it the whole way through

Not a total waste of time: TFF

    Bleargh: NEM

I took my gf (at the time :flow2: ) to see ST2009 and she enjoyed it immensely, despite maybe having only seen one or two episodes of Star Trek in her life. My only regret is we broke up before I could get her gorgeous chest wrapped around one of those TOS style miniskirts Yeoman Rand wore. :soma:

Nope, sorry, TFF has "what does God need with a starship?", and McCoy's dad's death scene, that immediately makes it superior to INS and Nem, and should put it next to TMP.

TFF is an interesting concept that could have possibly been done better, I'll give them that.

Agreed. Plus there are some other nice moments...the moments (other than the campfire and S/C getting lost and claiming to be in a blizzard) are very nice, just the overall plot and structure were fucked up.
I didn't appreciate a lot of things about TMP, although the director's cut is much better, in that there were stretches that were just TOO damned slow.

    BUT

I thought it might have been Shatner's 2nd best work in a movie in many ways. The whole business of basically TAKING the E away from Decker and then trying to justify his choices was some solid interpersonal drama, IMO. The interplay between Nancy-pants Decker ("My god man let's be careful!") and "I'm Jim Kirk damnit" was well done, and Nimoy's turn on Spock's coming to terms with the idea that having emotions isn't the worst thing in the galaxy after all is worth watching.

If they could have thrown in a couple more somewhat light moments (like McCoy's bitching about being "drafted") and had some halfway decent regular duty uniforms (Kirk's dress uni, and short sleeve shirt were both aces, IMO) then it would have been WAY better with little effort.

In that sense, ST09 and TMP are basically polar opposites...one too silly and one too serious, and both could have been much better with just a couple of steps towards the middle ground.

Most folks have forgotten that TFF was made during a writer's strike, and for whatever reason, Gene was not behind the story line - probably because it was too much like one HE wanted to do that got shot down (IMO)

That more people enjoy the film that do not. That the film is both a critical and financial success, which guarantees that Abrams-Trek is here to stay.

You enjoyed TOS while it was on, and now I'm enjoying Abrams-Trek while it lasts. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Not true at all. If the 3rd film goes on to be a success, and it probably will be, they'll churn out plenty more with or without JJ. Movie studios are pretty much devoid of new ideas and are in business to make money.

So few words from you but so much butthurt.
