Were any weapons/defenses nerfed in the latest patch? As recently as a few days ago, my ship used to kick ass but now I'm getting whaled on, and nothing else has changed.
I enjoyed parts of the game, but if they allowed us to go explore every planet whenever we wanted (with a few off-limit areas due to story) I'd come back just to try and explore every one.
I just have to survive long enough to wear you down. I have 8 of my 12 Bridge Officer skills devoted to healing. Four hull heals and four shield heals. They've changed a lot over the last couple of weeks. Tactical Team was nerfed a few months ago and recently it was turned on it's head and made a good skill again. What exactly are you running? They're working on revamping two big things. They're going to completely trash the existing "Explore" areas/Diplomacy system and replace it with something that feels more like Trek. A First Contact mission will actually feel like a First Contact mission. Secondly, the current ground combat/explore system is going in the trash. Everyone is hoping for a ground combat reward from this new weekly series, but I don't see it happening since they're going to change everything.
I'm flying an Advanced Heavy Retrofit Cruiser. Now, very shortly after I made that post, I got an idea, and replaced all of my weapons with green and blue Mk X/XI phasers, with transphasic torps in front and Quantum torps in back. I also traded out my Mk XI rare Covariant shields with Mk XI rare Resilient shields. This is actually working. I'm getting higher DPS now than before, and not blowing up nearly as much. The downside is that those weapons go for a lot of money, and I spent all 900,000 credits that I had to outfit my ship (gouging!), but it's working out pretty well so far. Now, see, I'm a Tac but I've built up my skills for Retrofit Cruisers. I have 3 Eng slots and two of them are heals (though they repeat).
Still planning to respec for tetryon cannons when I save up the 200 emblems I need to swap everything out. Three dual heavy cannons (30 apiece), two turrets (also 30 each), and two consoles (25 each). Been lazy with posting my unwanted loot lately, so I can't afford the ridiculous prices for anything decent in the exchange. Last thing I bought was a mk XI very rare personal shield, for something like 1.7 million.
I too am running the Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit. USS Hood (NCC-97643-C) I have my native Engineer skills: Rotate Shield Frequency III: 5,580 Shield Regeneration over 30 seconds for each shield facing. Reduces damage to shields by 39% for 30 seconds. EPS Power Transfer III: +27 to all power settings for 30 seconds. +164% Power transfer rate for 30 seconds. Nadion Inversion III: Reduced energy drain by 70% Engineering Fleet II: +26 all damage resistance for 30 seconds. +16 Starship Warp Core Training for 30 seconds. +16 Starship Engineering Training for 30 seconds. My personal favorite: Miracle Worker III: +12,960 hit points. 4,320 Shield Regeneration applied once to each shield facing. Repairs any disabled systems. Now to my Bridge Officers. Tactical Lieutenant Commander: Beam Array Overload I: On a bare hull, it usually does about 6,000 damage. Torpedo High Yield II: Three torps. If they crit, I've seen my Quantum Torpedoes do 8,000 damage each. Attack Pattern Omega I: +30% all damage strength for 15 seconds. +18 all damage resistance for 15 seconds. 109% flight speed strength for 5 seconds. 109% flight turn rate strength for 5 seconds. Immunity to movement debuffs (tractor beams) for 15 seconds. Immunity to disable debuffs for 15 seconds. +18% defense strength for 5 seconds. Engineering Commander: Engineering Team I: +5,630 hit points. Aux Power to the Emergency Batteries I: +13 Weapon Power for 10 seconds. +13 Shield Power for 10 seconds. +13 Engine Power for 10 seconds. -32 Auxiliary Power for 10 seconds. Engineering Team III: +9,382 hit points. Extend Shields III: 187 Shield Regeneration each second for 30 seconds. Reduces damage to shields by 39% for 30 seconds. Engineering Lieutenant: Emergency Power to Shields I: 1,418 Shield Regeneration for each facing. +24 Shield Power setting for 30 seconds. Auxiliary Power to the Structural Integrity Field I: +1,784 hit points. +15 all damage resistance for 10 seconds. Engineering Ensign: Emergency Power to Engines I: +40 flight speed for 5 seconds. +18 engine power for 30 seconds. Science Lieutenant: Transfer Shield Strength I: 327 Shield Regeneration applied once to each facing. 1,492 Shield Regeneration over 15 seconds to each facing. Reduces damage to shields by 5.7% for 15 seconds. Hazard Emitters II: 7,329 hit points over 15 seconds. Removes hazard debuffs over 15 seconds. +16 all damage resistance for 15 seconds. If I time everything right, I can do continuous hull and shield heals, and most of those can be thrown so I can support other players. Power settings: Setting # (Actual number due to consoles and skills) Weapons: 100 (114) Shields: 50 (92) Engines: 25 (37) Auxiliary: 25 (37) Between consoles and skills, I run right around 12,000 hit points on my shields and my hull has 50,701 hit points.
Re-specced for Tetryon cannons. I don't have my main guns all the way up to mark XI very rare or better, but I'm not really seeing a marked improvement. Heal-heavy Engineer cruiser tanks still eat everything I throw at them, and then nuke me at their leisure. Even had trouble with another Defiant the other night. Held me off with his healing, then someone hit me with some kind of attack pattern debuff that nerfed my turn rate. I couldn't bring my cannons to bear, and he picked me off with what looked like all tetryon beam emitters.
That last episode was actually pretty fun, if a bit long. I already knew my character didn't really do anything impressive with a bat'leth, and she's also not great with the lirpa, but give her that sword and it's almost D&D Online again.
Well, then. That's gonna have to happen. I believe Ubermass is at home building custom missions, too.
I really like the TOS interiors. But, if they're going to keep doing stuff like this, I hope they do a TMP-ST:VI set. It feels really weird having a Galaxy class bridge on my Excelsior.
If they go really old-school and bust out some "Cage" era shit, I'm in. Oh, and that'd better include the main viewscreen doing the "Jell-O wiggle" at random, too.
I wish I had taken some screen shots of that. Ubermass, UA, and I were stuck on a Defiant bridge with 24 mobs of Borg. Thank God I had a cover shield and force field dome. I used them to block the Ready Room door. We just camped out and picked them off one by one.
