Oh yeah, and Shaw refusing Picard and Rikers clearly suspicious requests but not following up in any way is also stupid, not to mention dangerously careless. I know it's been a while since the Dominion War, but when two VIPs show up without warning and try to divert your ship to the edge of Federation space for the flimsiest of reasons, how do you not at least verify their presence with command or at least do some blood screenings?
Well, they’ve struck Picard and Riker with the idiot stick, but it’s at least got more plot and meaningful character choices than all of Season 2 put together. And the pacing! That would have been 6 episodes in S1. It’s nice that the ships all seem to have have distinctive lines and lighting again. One of the things I hated about Discovery S1 and Picard S1 and S2 was how all the ships (except Discovery herself and the Enterprise) looked… I dunno, blurry, almost. Indistinct. Even for each ship, it wasn’t easy to identify the shuttle bay, engine nacelles, etc. The whole hulls were all grey blobs. No problem there with the Titan-A or whatever Crusher’s ship is called. Feels more like TSFS to me. I’m pretty sure those were strains of “Stealing the Enterprise” playing as the Titan-A was leaving Spacedock. I’m okay with that. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’ll be back. Agreed, especially about the commbadge, but kinda seems like he rotates his stuff through the house regularly. I don’t think the E-D painting was there before and he seemed quite willing to send it to Geordi. The impulse drive arrangement makes no sense, and the neck looks roided out, but see above. It’s *distinct* which is more than I can say for most ships recently. The sloppiness around whether it’s a refit or a different ship is grating though. Yeah this is dumb. I hope it turns out he just said that to keep Picard from feeling guilty for roping him in. Which was like 30 years ago at this point. How many battleship models were sold in the 1970s? Agreed on all counts.
"Let's go, let's go! I didn't spend seven goddamned years on a fucking Oberth only to get knocked down to station physician!"
After a second viewing, I have to say that I don’t really blame Shaw for refusing Picard & Riker’s request. To show up on MY ship under the premise of a “surprise inspection?” I’d be bit put off from the start. They aren’t even active officers. Not to mention that I’m there to get out from under Riker’s shadow. They’d have been better off if Roker called him up & said “Captain Shaw, I need quick & QUIET transport to the edge of Federation space. Can you help me?” They should’ve just went to Geordi.
The neo-Constitution feels to me as out of place and anachronistic as anything from S1 Disco. Sucks if your quarters are in the saucer and you aren't one of the half dozen people with a window.
that's pretty much an issue with all SF ships since always though. at least 2/3 of the crew cabins are in the interior.
Speaking as a Navy sailor, if a spaceship runs anything like the current military, they won't have much time to lament on a lack of a good view. I was only anywhere near my rack to sleep, shit and shower on deployments.
at least the corridor has a window at the end... well, we know that they have at least four shift rotations and LD has implied they aren't hot bunking... that's up to 10 hours leisure time per day. Probably window sized viewers in the internal cabins along with full spectrum lighting throughout the ship... actually, that brings a question about interspecies crews... light settings.
Cardassians were always bitching about the light and heat on DS9, so...either they put species with special light requirements on segregated ships, or they're just fucked.
That one always pokes the pedant in me. Going by anything else, "one-quarter impulse power" ought to generate an insanely fast speed, an appreciable fraction of light speed. The ship would instantly crash into the spacedock wall. Anyhoo, that was the most fanservice I've ever seen anywhere. But decent so far. Same as the other series openers.
just turning in to watch E2... y'know that little branding animation they do with the ship describing the SF logo? I jsut noticed it's the Titan. (I usually skip the intros) Sarnia is a shithole of a city north of Detroit, so that's amusing... not the first time they've used names off the ontario map. (SG1 did this a lot with B.C. place names too). What's to say? the show is full fan service. Predictable as hell, but balanced by being well scripted and playing things out. The "big connection reveal", for instance. Zero GASP! factor, but perfectly executed. Worf's entrance in god mode was great. The villain is over the top. My opinion of Shaw is improving. THe only problem I'm having here is the same as the 90s Show... Jack Crusher the Second looks a little older than the 20 years since Bev was last sharing in group chat.
Apparently, the Jack Crusher actor is 35. This show must use the cast casting director as Riverdale. Also, saw this on Twitter:
Picard S03E02 This one was okay. There were some good moments: Picard accepting Jack is his son, the interaction between Riker and Picard is always smooth, seeing Worf show up to rescue Raffi. The bad stuff outweighed the good stuff for me, though: the laughing, scene chewing villain, the once again excessive blood/gore/shock (beheading seems very popular on this series), the slooooooooooow action sequences where there are too many silent pauses where there shouldn't be any, the heavy emphasis on hard emotion. It kind of felt like a police procedural, of which I am not a fan. So middling for me.
If, by "perfectly executed" you mean the whole thing was ripped off from another Trek film, then I agree!
